I debated about whether or not to even bother writing about this because, on the one hand, who cares? However, on the other hand, several readers have emailed me to ask me to post about it so we can talk about it. So here you go.
Roseanne Barr posted a blog entry of her own, where she ripped apart Jon Voight, then went on to tear down Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt. One classy gem is this:
your evil spawn Angelina Jolie and her vacuous hubby Brad Pitt make about forty million dollars a year in violent psychopathic movies and give away three of it to starving children trying to look as if they give a crap about humanity as they spit out more dunces that will consume more than their fair share and wreck the earth even more. (Just sayin’).
I don’t even really know what to say. I know that not everyone is going to love Brad and Angelina, and honestly, I really don’t expect everyone to do so. Everyone’s entitled to an opinion, but what purpose is served by spewing such incredible vitriol as that? There are several celebrities that I personally can’t stand, but I can’t be bothered to go out of my way to blast each one of them – nor do I go to fan websites and snark over there. I just leave it at “I really don’t like XYZ” and there’s no need for more.
I can only wonder if Roseanne has some new project coming up and needs to direct some free publicity her way. Slamming two major stars who are of interest to a great deal of people? That is a surefire way to get attention.
Never mind that she’s not even right. Brad and Angelina donate a great deal more money than just $3 million. I’d love Roseanne to let us know how much SHE gives to those in need on a regular basis.
I won’t even get into the snarky tone she uses when discussing the Jolie-Pitt children.
It’s a shame and it saddens me because I was always a huge fan of Roseanne – in fact I still love to watch the show Roseanne in re-runs in the evenings. She never failed to make me laugh (especially now that I’m a mother myself and can relate even more), but now she’s just making me sigh.
Ugh. In light of this, let’s all watch the wonderful video that reader Lara linked to in the comments a few entries back, a video showing some of the great work Angelina Jolie has done with the UNHCR – some of the footage includes things Brad Pitt has done too.
Take THAT, Roseanne.

She must’ve just became a democrat. She thinks she’s doing a great service to her new party, but she’s not. She’s always had a big mouth. She’s desperate for attention. What do you know, she’s getting the attention. I do NOT like her using Ange/Brad this way. Yikes!

I’m 40 and was talking with a younger coworker about celebrity obsessions and why.(I think the whole Paris thing was dragging on and on). She said, “I know I love hearing about what messed up lives celebrities have because it reminds me that money doesn’t buy you happiness and it makes me feel good about my life because things are under control and I’m happy.”. Wise words for one so young. Brad and Angelina are focusing their star power on helping others, that in turn makes other celebs uncomfortable because they either can’t afford to donate as much or don’t want to so yeah the some are going to lash out, is anyone surprised that Rosanne was the first? Not me!

I agree with all of the above. Let us not give credence to someone who is obviously not in her right mind. So much hatred is incredible, specially targeting the children. I guess she is in dire need for attention. So sad.
Low-life people like Roseanne Barr doesn’t deserve any pity or attention. First of all, she may not possess a GED, she talks with chewing gum, so much for manners. I don’t think she is jealous, she’s just being 8teful. She replicates a deranged person, and a psychopath.
This comment may go into moderation, but I want Jolie-Pitt fans, not to feel bad, because these people are not going away. They are a bunch of grabage to the society.
Rosanne erred terribly here. Right to vote (endorse) is a personal entitlement. Brad & Angie merely emphasize their right to vote irrespective of race, color or what other Hollywood members want. It is issues that dictate whom to support, not color, race of the candidates or their children, adopted or otherwise.
Roseanne who? why are we giving her any time of day? This is a desparate woman who will do anything to revive her career. She is bitter, angry and jealous. Lets forget her. She just wanted to be in the news and the cheapest and easiest ways to do so are either to take nude pictures of yourself or bash the biggest celebrities in the world. She couldn’t do the former obviously, so the latter looked like her only option. Here we are talking about her, just like she wanted. I’ll think we should ignore her and I hope Brad and Angie do same.
I totally agree with you Toni! Bashing innocent children who have done nothing except give joy to their parents is totally reprehensible. Let’s not give this non-person the free publicity that she craves by totally ignoring her blog.
^^^I caved into temptation and read some comments and JJ. Really a bad move. It’s disturbing how some people think Angie owes the public anything, especially with regards to her voting decision. Somehow, some people believe that if Angie actually votes for McCain, the war in Iraq would now be her fault. Roseanne’s blog must have been sending subliminal messages because she’s got some people warped into buying her logic.
I think that she wanted to bash Jon Voight but if she did, noone would care about what she writes so she used Angie and Brad to get attention. I think she is crazy. Bashing children!!!Give me a break. Also, I don’t understand why Angie should support one candidate.
Roseanne has always loved to shock people, and she usually does so by bashing more classy celebrities, i.e. Merly Streep, Oprah, and now Brad and Angie.
Yep, it’s hard to understand her loathing. If she was trying to make a point in that post, she totally lost it in all her delirious hatred.
I’m torn about this. By talking about it and making reference to it, we give her what she wants and that is attention. I am sure Senator Obama wishes she would have kept her mouth shut as it gives his supporters a bad name, as most are intelligent and good people. By the way, this is a free country and we are free to vote for whosoever we please. Something this woman seems to have forgotten.
So many people use this couple, especially Angelina for their own gain, to spew venom and to get headlines (she is getting them) and hits to her blog, which I refuse to give her. The attack on the adults is one thing, but on the children is reprehensible. She seems to have lost all sense of decency and it makes her look really scary. It just seems to come out of nowhere and it is just odd.
yeah…as i read it i was like WHOA! i was actually too shocked to even think about it at the first moment. what is Roseanne intending with this? this can´t be that good for her image either!
i mean…she can say what she wants about Angie and Brad (cause they are adults and can deal with the situation), lets face it i think Brangelina are way to mature and grown up to even care. but what she said about the kids…i have no words. and btw Mad is not Vietnamese or Thai, he is Cambodian, she didn´t even get her facts straight – to split hairs.
anyway…this was definetly NOT the right way to get into focus of the public again, Roseanne!
