Apparently, Rupert Boneham of Survivor asked (his manager says that he practically begged) to be on the Pirate Master series. They did not ask him to be a part of the show, but they did have the nerve to ask him for his advice a lot for the show.
On a related note, a couple of people at the Reality TV Convention said that they know people who think that Louie on Pirate Master IS Rupert.

from my end, i’d say the entire series was inspired by rupert, whether conciously or sub-conciously, based on rupert’s initial glee in thieving all the shoes of his rival tribe… he even said, “we’re pirates.” tell me that didn’t make some lightbulbs go off in mark burnett’s head.
Maybe the reason why piratemaster did not have good rating was because of poor advertizing. i hope it comes back.
