Rush Limbaugh had some good things to say about Angelina Jolie’s op-ed piece for the Washington Post that she wrote the other day. Although she’s definitely focusing more on the human side of things, the displaced people who have been ripped from their homes, it apparently struck a chord for the world of politics too. He said:
Her point is to stay, help the Iraqis, especially those who are out of the country, want to come back home, the time is right now, and that the surge is working. Now, if you read the piece by Angelina Jolie today in the Washington Post, you will conclude that she is deeper and in ways more specific than Obama about this if you read the whole article. She makes more sense than Hillary Clinton or Barack Obama or anybody on the Democrat side about this. It’s stunning. I’ve had some people, “Rush, you realize, she didn’t write it.” I don’t know that she didn’t write it. I’m not going to assume she didn’t write it. (interruption) That’s another thing, that’s a good point, too, it’s pretty brave of her to do this, given Hollywood and so forth. But she’s big enough to withstand it, and it sort of makes me appreciate this Brad Pitt guy a little more. He’s gone after substance here, is all I’m saying. This really is a good piece.
You can read the whole piece or listen to an audio clip over here.

The world is surely getting stranger and stranger if RUSH LIMBAUGH is praising Angelina Jolie !
However, I am not surprised that he would pick up on her editorial. There is one highly qualified line in it in which she says that from what she had heard from the humanitarians on the ground, the conditions in Iraq are now such that it is possible to bring help to the displaced and homeless Iraqis over there. Of course a Republican like Limbaugh will jump on this to claim that Angelina is vindicating “the surge” and that “America should stay the course for ever and ever” rather than pull out as Obama and Clinton want to do.
Though on one hand I think that praise from Limbaugh is the last thing any right-minded person would want, on the other hand, I think it’s cool that even extreme right liberal bashers like him are finally being forced to recognize how courageous and principled Angelina is.
^^ good observation Kari. I think that if she struck a cord with Rush (and sorry, I don’t like him), a major poltical commentator, then, Angelina’s article should have resonated with at least a few serious politicians out there. Unfortunately, her piece is going to be misconstrued in a way that advances either party’s political views. I see the piece has more humanitarian intents than a political one, especially because Angelina’s expertise encompasses the human side of things.
Ye Gods. Poor Angelina Jolie with the likes of true haters and right wingers like Bill O’Reiley(sp) and that other crazy man Rush heaping praise on her. And completely misinterpreting what she wrote. These non-intellectual spewers of hate and prejudice think by her Op Ed piece that she’s on their (and many others I have read) side of distorted thinking. Bush/McCain’s side? Whoa….not in a million light
years!
Unfortunately Rush Limbaugh will use and twist anything to support his extreme right wing rhetoric and hate. I understand & admire Angelina’s concern for the plight of millions of Iraqi refugees; however, I disagree w/ her assessment. The surge, as it is, is unsustainable; one area is secured but violence erupts in others. US troops are stretched beyond their limits. The US economy may be facing a recession, w/ a 3 trillion dollar war on its back. The idea that the surge is working, is an overly simplistic analysis and nothing more than a right wing neocon fantasy.
I can’t believe some people think she didn’t write it. >:-(
That true if she’s fighting for there rights then surely she knows enough to write about it. She goes were the action is .She talks with the people there. She knows there hardships more than alot of us.
angie is a smart cookie and she’s using her fame into a good cause but some other people refuse to believe her good intentions. it’s really heart breaking but i guess that’s how life goes especially for an A listed celebrity like her, i guess she just can’t please everybody…
may god continue to guide and bless our angie.
Kari I agree with you. I don’t believe Angie is taking sides on if we stay longer or remove our service people. She is saying we need to help the people who have been driven out of their homes. Brad was asked by Larry King who he wanted to see be elected and Brad said he was not ready to make a decision and I think Angie is listening and thinking also. And I also hate that certain people are saying she did not write that piece. She would never put herself in that position. She would lose the respect of the people/politicians that she works with. Whatever, she continues to do good work. Off subject: People has some nice pictures of Angie with the children on their website today.
I Hope This Doesnt Offend Anyone But I HATE Limbaugh…… But Of Course I Love My Angie
I have always thought Angie was a very bright and articulate woman, this is why Brad is so attracted to her. She’s not only the hottest woman in Hollywood, but she challenges and stimulates his mind (he’s already stated that). Brad is a very intelligent guy and therefore needs someone he can relate to.
Why does the media try to portray Angie to be like all the other “bimbo” actresses in Hollywood. She is obviously not like the others and has prooven that time and time agian.
Very good article Angie, keep up the good work and (Pitt watch) keep supporting her, with these great stories of her and the family, like you do…god bless!
I am not an American but even I know about Rush Limbaugh and his politics and what I do know, I do not like. However he is right in his comments about the US staying in Iraq to deal with the humanitarian crisis.
However here is an article about the op-ed from an organisation that does alot of great work.

Honestly the Limbaugh connection is very obvious for what it is.
And to doubt Angie wrote this piece is to show the doubters IGNORANCE. She has written a book, other articles and reports which have been published. She has given interviews and reports which has all the interviewers and receipients dumbfounded at her knowledge base. Colin Powel, Gordon Brown, Anderson Cooper etc.
She is a member of the Think Tank for Foreign Relations (CFR).
This info is out there, easily available.
My main interest about this is that he recognises that Brad and Angie’s relationship is based on substance and NOT superficiality. What a slap in the face for his audience.
Thanks Lou for the link.
However following her first visit to Iraq, she did mention the US’s promise to resettle some Iraq’s to US.
i think rush is annoying guy with a huge ego, but i agree with him on a lot of stuff. and i’m glad he talking bout AJ in a good way.
If anyone has listened to her speak about humanitarian issues or her work with the UN, they learn quickly that she is very articulate, knowledgable and well spoken. I don’t know why people would question whether or not she wrote the article. When I read her journal entries in her book Notes From My Travels, I was quite impressed with her ability to express her emotions and describe vividly what she saw and experienced. I never doubted she was the author of her own work.
Now as to Limbaugh, he has little crediblity as being a true media/political commentator. But sadly enough, he is one of the most popular radio programs in the U.S. I do not listen to him because I refuse to contribute to that kind of filth and slander on the airwaves, but anyone he mentions on his show is sure to get some coverage from it. The Limbaugh’s and Ann Coulter’s of this country will always remain popular as long as ignorance persists.
What is the difference between pitt watch and angelina watch.com ? Because all we get is about angelina here.I appreciate angelina ’s concern about refugees but as someone who lives in the middle east, I really would appreciate if hollywood stars didn’t get involved in politics.Because this is real real life , its not a hollywood film.I know it has become very fashionable to be intellectual in hollywood nowadays, but this is much more complex than what they think. So ,they better just go with their humanitarian work and not take sides at least. You have to be completely aware of the culture , the area and alot of other things to be able to judge .
Greg and CO., McCain’s position is that we are achieving success over there and more harm than good would result from a quick withdrawal, for everyone involved. Sounds like what our girl here is trying to say. AND she has made it clear that she is an independent and carefully evaluating both candidates before casting her vote. Finally a Hollywood resident with a mind of her own, my respect for her grows.
