Samantha Morton and Dominic West have joined the cast of the Disney/Pixar film “John Carter of Mars”.
The movie is about “Civil War vet John Carter is transplanted to Mars, where he discovers a lush, wildly diverse planet whose main inhabitants are 12-foot tall green barbarians. Finding himself a prisoner of these creatures, he escapes, only to encounter Dejah Thoris, Princess of Helium, who is in desperate need of a savior.”
Minority Report star Samantha will play Sola – the daughter of Willem Dafoe’s character Tars Tarkas – in the sci-fi epic based on Edgar Rice Burroughs’ novels, according to the Hollywood Reporter.
Dominic, star of The Wire, will play villain Sab Than of the Zodangans, who wants to become ruler of Mars.
Fellow British actress Polly Walker, who just finished filming Clash Of The Titans, has joined the cast as Sarkoja, an aggressive Thark – a green, four-armed alien.
I have high hopes for this film because it’s being directed by Andrew Stanton, who also directed Wall-E…one of my most favorite movies ever! Taylor Kitsch will play the main character, John Carter and Lynn Collins plays his love interest, Princess Dejah Thoris.
Shooting on “John Carter of Mars” will begin early next year in Austin, TX and Utah, with a 2012 release date.
