I think Sanjaya Malakar is suckiest singer on American Idol. What were people thinking when they put him in the Top 10. He really RUINED the show , I cheered when he got voted off. I saw him perform during the American Idols Live! Tour when they stop at The Mark Of The Quad Cities Moline,Ill and he stunk.
If put a debut CD I'll get it then I"ll burn the DAMN CD until it is ashes. YOU SUCK!!!

                         Sanjaya Malakar Hater,
                                David Tompos

Hello Raven, I didn't understand this rage of hatred about a TV show. Who was Sanjaya hurting? No one. He is a gentle fellow and he was obviously loved by his peers on the show. So, why was everyone getting so hateful? This bothered me a great deal. Young people getting killed in Iraq and hatred at Sanjaya? No, thanks. I was not willing to join in that crucifixion or any crucifixion for that is not in my nature. On talk shows, Sanjaya was well
mannered and humble. He didn't speak against anyone! That is credit to his character. I never hated him. I never hated any of the contestants. And, once again, it is a TV show. Sanjaya being voted off would not shatter world events.
I loathed all the homophobic comments. Who cares in this era who is gay and who isn't? Let us get past
that. He appeared on Ellen's show and she is out as a Lesbian. She is a great person!
Sanjaya sang that one song in Spanish quite well and that could be his genre. Some of my favourite singers wouldn't have made it on AI either. It is not just a matter of hitting a wide range or even the right notes, it is a feel.
As for these teeny boppers saying "looks creepy". That I didn't understand at all because he is a very good looking young man. I detect racism and that is ugly.
We live in troubled times and peace begins within ourselves. I have no hatred towards others. I didn't like the rigging of "Vote for the Worst" that was arranged by some guy and Howard Stern got involved but it is a TV show. The hysteria was inexcusable. I applaud Sanjaya for keeping his head on straight and for having supportive family members. I am happy for him. If he gets a recording contract and puts out a CD, good for him. I wish him well and I wish all of the contestants well. I feel that is at it should be. It takes courage to do what they did and go on live TV. It was Sanjaya who was ridiculed and adored at the same time. Luckily, it did not scar him as his family is a loving one.
I appreciate your enlightening and compassionate words. We need more people like you who don't follow mass hysteria, homophobia and racism.
All the Best,
Dennis.

Raven- Now that you have explained your point, I have been humbled and have to agree with most of what you have explained. It is very true that American Idol has changed. You are correct in thinking of what AI was originally supposed to be about, but that has changed. It is more of a popularity contest and votes are not based on vocal talent but rather who looks better or has the most dirt in their background. It's sick and has totally changed what AI is supposed to be about, instead it has turned into what "America" is really about and that's sad. I mean we have to be honest here and we see it everyday that America and Americans are more focused on others misfortunes and who is cuter than who and who can sleep around with everyone's man and the biggest thing America glorifies and has turned into---one big party! It's sad and i am an American but what has happened to this country is horrible. American Idol is a symbol of that. It went from being wholesome and true to a farce, so I do see your frustration and your point. Hatred has consumed this nation as a whole.

Dennis,

I don't think my coments were really directed at you as you seem to be a reasonable person. Everyone is indeed entitled to their opinions but my problem has been with the absolute mass hatred (some of it very misguided) directed at him. As for instance, I saw that you took up for him when that kid was going on and on for no reason about hating him just cause he "looked like a woman" on Ellen, which was obviously nothing but a homophobic rant with no basis in anything constructive. For that, I thank you. So my comments weren't intended at you and I do know this is an old thread but I guess it still upsets me when I go back and read this stuff. I really should not, as it's just dwelling on the negative, and Sanjaya himself has moved on and so should I.

We'll probably always disagree but I do think Sanjaya can have a viable career. I don't really know where it's written that an American Idol contestant has to be Pavaratti to be deserving of a Top 10 finish. I think we're getting way too caught up in that idea at the expense of remembering that the most popular pop icons of our time have been people not with great abilities as singers, but with stage presence and charisma. Look at Madonna, or Mick Jagger, or dozens of others I could name. None of them would have made it on American Idol (well, not Mick anyway cause he's British but you know what I mean). I remember Simon Cowell saying on a talk show that Johnny Cash-JOHNNY CASH- would have never been put through on American Idol. So that tells you where these people are really coming from insofar as judging talent. Besides, I really thought the whole idea of the show (at least, originally) was to find the best raw, undiscovered talent, that diamond-in-the-rough. I never knew it was supposed to be about promoting professional singers who've already had years of professional experience. (And let's face it, that was pretty much the crop of this year's talent-professional backup singers and trained musicians). And I guess maybe I'm just failing to understand when did American Idol get to be such a huge deal that the show is more important than simple human dignity and compassion? I mean, when I was reading things like, "Somebody kill Sanjaya please" and Globe magazine was printing horrendous stories calling him a she-he, etc., and you realize all this is supposed to stem from people being soooooo upset over a TV show, well I'm sorry. I don't get it. And as for opinions, well, everyone has them. I personally thought Blake was an over-pimped contestant who had nothing but a gimmick going for him, and whose every performance was nothing but a karaoke version of the original. I thought Simon hit the nail on the head in the very beginning, when he told Blake, "You're not as good as you think you are." But again, that's an opinion, right? It's certainly not something that would excuse a nationwide Blake- bashing campaign. But that's what happened to Sanjaya. All because some became of the notion that their "opinion" was somehow more valid than mine-or any of the other people voting for him.

I guess I don't understand, but I never will. It seemed in the beginning, when Sanjaya first auditioned, that he was destined to be America's sweetheart. I still think that's the way it could have been, had Simon kept his homophobic comments out and focused on what he was supposed to have been focusing on-the singing. I mean, honestly, how many times in the whole competition did he ever make one critique of the vocals, other than saying the first performance was boring? Beyond that, he never said one word about the singing. It was always a crack about the hair, or the hula dancing, or something that was anything but a constructive critique of the vocals. Anyway, that's my piece on the matter, and I'll let it rest there.

But thanks, Dennis, for your thoughtful response and commentary. It was much appreciated.

Good for Sanjaya. I never had anything personal against him as a person. I never met him but he was on AI way, way too long. I am puzzled as to why you posted on here as this is a dead issue. He was voted off and Jordin Sparks won the contest. Sanjaya has a limited range of singing but if he can do something with it and have a career in music, it is fine by me. I wish all of the finalists the very best. If I were to pick one with the least range, it would be Sanjaya but that doesn't mean he can't use what limited range he has to put out a CD. Really, his visibility has died down. It is up to having a publicist now to do something for him. As for all the celebrity gossip like what is going on with Britney and Lindsay, I wish them well but it is their personal lives and they just need help. I don't need to see it on the covers of papers.
All the Best,

Wow! Are people seriously still commenting on a thread from March??!! And are very hostile?!

Raven I was going to let this go but I am puzzled as to why you would come on here and call us pathetic human beings. So since it takes a pathetic human being to actually know one of it's own kind, I guess that makes you head master of the "Pathetic Humans".
We are expressing our opinions as you did EXCEPT you seem to enjoy name calling and putting people down. Sanjaya may be your favorite Idol ever and that's great for you but that is no reason for you to say such harsh words and call people Pathetic human beings. That was low and rude. We are normal people that really don't care about Sanjaya's pockets and how he is, according to you, laughing all the way to the bank. He's laughing cuz he's high- how about that. And you and your buddies are laughing because really you are the pathetic ones that are just as tone deaf as he is...BTW I saw the video you referred to on youtube...now that was PATHETIC! Sorry but it wasn't that great. He had absolutely no stage presence and he was swaying side to side with his elbows mashed in his sides moving faster than the music was and sorry hon but his vocals are not that great. Sure he can grow and become a great singer (cough) but he will need a voice coach and he really needs to work on his projection or just follow Paris around and be a Paparazzi whore...he would be great at that plus it seems to be the up and coming career to have ;)

And for all of you still insisting he can't sing, PLEASE shut up and listen to his studio downloads. Listen to him sing Sweet Chariot on YouTube, with his church choir. He was brilliant! Still is. An AMAZING singer. Maybe not a powerhouse, but he knows how to interpret a song beautifully. His voice is pleasant and has a great tone. Certainly he is better than Britney, Justin and about 90% of the artists currently dominating the Top 40 charts. Most of those people don't have "great" voices; they sell on their personality and image. Their voices are "singable" at best; they have found their niche in the music world and don't have people like Simon Cowell judging them on national TV or have to embarrass themselves by trying to sing in a genre they aren't suited for-like the AI contestants. Sanjaya has a wonderful jazz and r&b voice; he'll do fine in those genres.

Sanjaya has a wonderful jazz and r&b voice; he’ll do fine in those genres.

Ah, you ALL suck! Sad, pathetic human beings. And Sanjaya is having the last laugh-all the way to the bank! Have you caught him on the tour? He's great!
Too bad...some of us knew it all along. We're all laughing....at all of YOU!

Audrey, He was voted off ages ago. Do you think that with all the publicity he received from the media
that he is not going to have a career? Even in the AI Finale, he was the only one of the 12 who was voted off earlier than the top four who got special notice! He has been offered by cable stations to have his own show. You haven't heard the last off Sanjaya Malakar. He will be on the big tour, too. So dry your eyes, Sanjaya will be around for awhile. Winning American Idol isn't a guarantee of a career that will last. Lots of contestants in the final 12 have done well. I think that all the media hype has helped Sanjaya to be offered opportunities to have a career. It all depends on what he chooses to accept.
All the Best,
Dennis.
