Here’s an interesting little tidbit: Seal opened up to the Daily Express about adopting Leni, wife Heidi Klum’s daughter from her previous relationship with Flavio Briatore. Seal began dating Heidi when she was three weeks pregnant with Leni and has always raised her as his own daughter. He says Flavio handled the situation well, “like an adult” and has “nothing but good things to say” about Heidi’s ex. And it’s true: how would anyone feel if their partner started dating someone else while carrying their child? That had to be a rough blow to Flavio.
Seal says he adopted Leni “only fairly recently” and that he did it so she wouldn’t feel like she was not a part of the family. He says: “All it means is that both Heidi and I wanted her to have the same last name as the rest of us. It was about Leni. I don’t want her to feel different because I know what that’s like, being a kind of stepson. And I don’t want that dynamic for my little girl.”
Seal’s three kids with Heidi have his last name — Samuel, and even Heidi recently petitioned to have her last name changed. It looks like the couple decided that everyone should have the same family name to avoid confusion.
