Seinfeld teams with NBC for reality show about marriage

NBC is teaming with comedian Jerry Seinfield for a new reality show project tentatively called Marriage Ref, according to the Hollywood Reporter.

NBC has ordered six one-hour episodes for a planned fall release of the show, which will feature 81020NR1celebrities, comedians and athletes who will judge couples in marital disputes while recommending strategies to resolve their problems.

NBC co-chair Ben Silverman said the comedian’s married years has inspired the reality series.

"The concept is so universal and accessible, and obviously it works so well when it comes from somebody with a point of view — and nobody has a stronger point of view on this subject than Seinfeld,” Silverman told THR.

THR mentions that given the show’s celebrity format, it’s possible to imagine Seinfeld will make at least an occasional appearance.

"This is not a therapy show, it’s a comedy show. After nine years of marriage, I have discovered that the comedic potential of this subject is quite rich,” Seinfeld said.

The show will reunite Seinfeld with The Opry Winfrey Show veteran Ellen Rakieten on the project, according to THR.
