The film version of Ramona Quimby is set to start shooting this spring in Vancouver. And it seems that Selena Gomez may be cast in the role of Beezus, Ramona’s older sister!
The film has taken a long time to come into fruition. Alison Greenspan, the producer on the film, had to spend a year-and-a-half convincing Beverly Cleary (the author of the beloved series) that she would do justice to the books!
Greenspan says, “[Cleary] was a librarian as well as a writer and had watched with some despair some adaptations of favourite books that hadn’t measured up. So she has been very protective of all her books.”
The Vancouver Sun says that it has taken Greenspan more than four years from the time that she approached the author to this moment, “beginning to cast and prep for shooting. Beezus, Ramona’s sister Beatrice, will be played by Celina Gomez.”
Now, I know that’s not how you spell Selena… but I’ve seen her name misprinted that way several times AND I’ve read on a couple of professional acting forums that people have heard Selena was cast in this role. I guess only time will tell!! Do you like the idea of Selena playing the smart and responsible sister? And who would make a good Ramona?

Selena would be perfect for the role of beezus. How bout Abigail breslin for da role of ramona?
When I first saw Selena for this movie, I thought she was going to be Ramona and I was like nooo. Beezus is a little better for her. When I read the books I didn’t picture Beezus as her though. It doesn’t seem to match, but I guess we’ll just see.
Selena Gomez is way to old to play Beezus.
Just went to imdb.com to check out the rest of the cast. The only one they got right was Ginnifer Goodwin as Aunt Bea. The rest of the cast is too … too … wrong. I mean, Beezus always complained about being plain–a Disney princess doesn’t fit that mold. Also, I can’t see Bridget Moynahan lamenting about money problems and John Corbett working at a supermarket.
