Yesterday Shannon Noll has come clean about his addiction to drugs and alcohol. Shannon told The Sunday Telegraph that he turned to drink and drugs after the death of his father Neil seven years ago.
“You can live well, do everything right, and still be killed,” he said. “So I thought I’d have a crack at everything. I didn’t let myself think about him [his father] when I was smashed. Consequently, I found myself getting smashed a lot.”
Shannon said his children Cody, Blake, and Sienna, gave him the motivation to beat his demons.
“I got to a stage where I had to own up to it. I’d turned into a zombie on the lounge. I wasn’t doing anything useful.”
Shannon didn’t go into detail about his vices, but did admit to using marijuana heavily and enjoying a beer.
Shannon’s going to be slammed for his mistakes because he’s a role model, and I can see the logic there. Like it or not, celebrities are placed on pedestals and their behaviour does influence other people. But I think going public about his habits is gutsy move. It takes a big man to admit they’ve done the wrong thing. And who knows? Maybe his talk about change will motivate someone else to clean up their act.

You would be referring to the trashy article in the Sunday Telegraph and other State papers yesterday which is so inaccurate. This is such old news and if you had watched a programme on Channel 10 back in 2005 called Up Close and Personal with Shannon Noll and compered by Dicko [there is also a DVD], Shannon admitted to smoking marijuana after his father died suddenly but he gave it up before his FIRST child was born in 2001. It really sickens me how a decent human being and a wonderful family man can be so persecuted by gutter journalism.
Interesting Di. I didn’t get into all the stuff the papers did (drawing parallels with hard-living rock stars, mentioning the problems at the CMC concert as if it was all tied in) because I thought a lot of it was unecessary. But if he already revealed this in that 2005 interview, it makes me wonder why it was the lead story in all the papers at all. News isn’t news if it’s been dealt with three years ago.
I do wonder what you mean about inaccuracies though. Do you mean that the paper said he gave up for his kids, when at that time he didn’t actually have any (just one on the way), or do you think Shannon didn’t really talk to the paper about these issues at all?
Because while it may be sensationalised, if Shannon’s talking about this stuff now – for whatever reason – I’m not sure he’s really being persecuted by them simply reporting on what he’s told them.
i think as a big fan of shannon noll that it was good of him to own up and trye to change all the bad things he has done and set a good example for his kids and no matter what he does i still concider him as my role model
