Summerstage’s final show was yesterday, Sunday August 17 and it was a doozie. Naomi Shelton and the Gospel Queens played first, followed by the Menahan Street Band, and finally by Sharon Jones and the Dap Kings. Sharon Jones, who is only 4′11″, has the most spectacular stage presence, and an incredible voice to go with it. From her fabulous dress to calling hot men on stage to dance with her to doing James Brown dances like the boogaloo, Jones was on fire. The audience was dancing for two hours straight and I can’t imagine anyone had a bad time. If you don’t have it yet, buy her latest album 100 Days, 100 Nights and have yourself a party! Also, looove this quote:
“Hey, Duffy: This is what soul sounds like: Tribal, earthy, hip-shakin’, swerve-throwin’ Sharon Jones.” [Time Out Chicago]
Lots more after the jump.
