As much as we loved the cameo appearance by Gordon Gekko’s 80’s style cell phone in the first released trailer for the upcoming sequel to 1987’s Wall Street, the latest trailer to hit the Web gives us even more reasons to buy a ticket for opening day.
Gekko (Michael Douglas) is giving a speech at a college (?) with Shia LeBeouf in the audience. After, Shia tells Gordon he’s going to marry his daughter, played by Shia’s current real life flame Carey Mulligan. Mulligan’s character is apparently estranged from daddy, and tries to convince Shia to stay away. Of course, we can assume that Gekko takes young Shia under his wing and the young Wall Street shark becomes the Gordon Gekko of the modern day. We then get all the gratuitous “this guy is awesome and rich” money shots: Shia on a motorcycle, Shia in a helicopter, Shia on the trading floor, Shia up against a seemingly bad guy played by Josh Brolin. Greed may not be good, but it never looked this good (sorry Charlie).
This trailer may be awesome in a “we love 80’s movie remakes” kind of way, but Shia really let us down in his last reincarnation of an 80’s fave: Indiana Jones. Are you planning to see Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps?
