When it was confirmed a month or so ago that Sienna Miller and boyfriend Tom Sturridge are expecting a child, a source claimed that the two “don’t have plans right away to marry, if at all.” That plan seems to be out the window, since Life & Style got their hands on this photo of Sienna wearing a sizeable diamond on her ring finger.
But what really has our attention, rather than the alleged details of their engagement, is how unattractive a photo this is. Do a Google Image Search of “celebrity engagement ring,” and you get photos of giggling actresses and singers coyly flashing their bling. Whether it’s a staged red-carpet moment or a candid, there’s a formula:
- Highlight your hand by pushing back your hair or reaching for your phone, but always look casual
- Have your wrist arched so that the light catches the stone just right
- Never actually look at the ring, lest people think you’re trying to make them look
…You know, the way Sienna did when she was wearing Jude Law‘s engagement ring back in 2010.
But here Sienna looks like she’s lurching out of a cab — or like she’s fighting off nausea from morning sickness — and her hand is stiffly at her side. I guess I just figured the actress would have more of a composed plan for showing off her ring for the first time. (There she is with Jude, below.)

Then again, it’s refreshing to see a candid and not feel like the paparazzi conspired with a celebrity to make us obsess over a piece of jewelry. What? You still want to hear the unconfirmed details from a “friend”? Oh, OK. According to an anonymous source, Tom Sturridge “proposed to Sienna during a romantic trip to Paris after Christmas. He filled their hotel suite at the Ritz with flowers and presented her with a vintage Victorian ring. It was incredibly romantic—she was blown away.” Happy now?

Yeah, well, Jude allegedly proposed to Sienna again in 2010 with a ring in a wooden ring box, hidden in a piano he purchased for her as a gift, per “friend” gossip that was circulated at the time. Somehow I’m doubting that now, so why should anyone think this proposal scenario happened with Tom? And really, who even cares? This woman has shot her wad on speculation about her love life, and it’s her and her publicist’s fault. To me, she was only interesting when she was with Jude. Now, not at all.
