SMALLVILLE 9.02 “Metallo” – episode description

SMALLVILLE 9.02 “Metallo”
Airdate: October 2, 2009

Spoiler Alert!

We only have hints about SMALLVILLE’s opening episode for season nine, but I can tell you this – John Corben (Brian Austin Green) gets introduced as a regular reporter with a beef against the Red-Blue-Blur. And then Corben gets hit by a truck. And for some reason, he thinks the RBB is responsible for it! And after waking up abandoned in an apartment, with a new heart powered by Kryptonite, Corben sets out to take avenge on the superhero. And Metallo is born. Clark Kent (Tom Welling) must have done something to piss him off!

smallville-9-season How ugly he looks! Corben has a Kryptonite power-source attached to his chest with spidery metal tongs plugging into his ribs! Whoever attached this to him must have seen Iron Man but wasn’t as genius as Tony Stark. Corben is so messed up, and add the existing tattoos on Green’s arms and you’ve got one mean machine.

Metallo is already mad at the Red-Blue-Blur but add the nosy Lois Lane (Erica Durance) and you have a bad mix. Lane gets involved in Clark’s investigation and gets kidnapped by Corben. A face-off happens between Metallo and the RBB, and by now I’m assuming Clark’s identity is no longer a mystery. Although Clark’s wearing his full costume – the dark “S”-breasted trenchcoat – he’s not hiding his face, so Corben knows exactly who he is. But in the promo images, Lois is unconscious so she is spared the agony of seeing Clark as the Red-Blue-Blur.

I wonder how this episode pans out. Metallo won’t easily forget Clark’s face, so this is the first time Clark’s enemy gets to see him face to face. Meanwhile, Clark also has to worry about Zod and his merry men.

Check out the released summary of episode 2 of season nine –

BRIAN AUSTIN GREEN (“TERMINATOR: THE SARAH CONNOR CHRONICLES”) CONTINUES HIS ROLE AS JOHN CORBEN — After being struck by a truck, John Corben (guest star Brian Austin Green) wakes up alone in an abandoned apartment as a man-machine with a Kryptonite heart.  Corben realizes he now has superhuman strength and sets out to exact revenge on the Red-Blue Blur, who he perceives to be an irresponsible vigilante.  Against Clark’s (Tom Welling) wishes, Lois (Erica Durance) involves herself in the Red-Blue Blur’s investigation, and winds up getting kidnapped by Corben.  Marizee Almas directed the episode written by Don Whitehead & Holly Henderson (#3X5252).
