Smallville Extends to Season Nine!!!

OMG I can’t believe it!

The CW announced that it is renewing SMALLVILLE for yet another season! Yes, friends and fans…

Smallville Season 9!

Smallville-season8-castCW and the fans have been very excited with the ratings and responses that Smallville received this season. Writing and directing have been superb, even after Millar and Gough left the show, and even with the absence of two main characters Lex Luthor (Michael Rosenbaum) and Lana Lang (Kristin Kreuk), who left after seven seasons when their contracts ended.

Negotiations with Tom Welling have been happening since late last year, and CW president for entertainment Dawn Ostroff “hoped” the network will extend one of it’s most established series for another year. Smallville exec Darren Swimmer already has big plans for the show!

Fans overwhelmingly support an extension of the series (from a poll at Superhero Profiles). And finally, we have it!

So, thank you CW, and thank you, Tom Welling and the other cast members who are continuing onto season 9!

Just imagine what Clark Kent will be doing next year! Man, the possibilities are endless, even if they decide not to let him don the suit and fly.

What’s next for Clark Kent? Who do you want to see again in season 9? Chloe? Oliver Queen? Lois? Are there any new heroes, villains or characters you want CW to add to the guest list?

I mean, are you thrilled about this, or should Smallville bow while it’s on top?

Fill the comments with your reactions to the news!

I love Tom! I’m happy I get to see him every week for another year. Smallville has its ups and downs but season 8 has been pretty good.

  2. Grace

Megan, I am thrilled too. I can’t imagine Thursday nights without Smallville! In fact I’m having such a withdrawal these days with the month off.

Season 8 is running really well, I can’t believe people are still hung up on Michael Rosenbaum not being part of the show anymore.

  3. Jessica King

That cool for Season 9,but I still did not heard Tom Welling and Erica Durance not sign for Season 9 while.I hope Clark and Lois get finally together this season or next season.

  4. wtf

  5. Annie

Season 8 has been great.. loys of actual and lots of funny moments… Season 9 is going to be great.. just hope lois lane gets to be in all episodes

It is time for the Seasons of Superman! Who says that it has to stop with Season 9? We are so ready to see Clark/Superman and Lois. The episodes with Lana just slowed down everything. The only good things about them were the “super heroes” from the future! They were GREAT! But, we are tired of all the “hype” that it is Lana who made Superman. Lois has always been what made Superman. We are so ready for Clark to become the man that he is supposed to be with the right woman beside him. Yes we love Chloe and Jimmy. We really enjoy the “balance” they bring to the show. Also, we love Oliver, Aquaman, Flash and Cyborg! We think that the next project on the CW should be The Justice League, with the Smallville “gang” doing crossovers. Chloe could be the main link between each show doing “computer” work for both storylines. If they did do a Justice League, then the Thursday Night Lineup should be – Smallville, The Justice League, and then Supernatural. Talk about having the best night of TV! Also, the new writers that we now have on Smallville are the best! We also like Clark facing new villains every week. This adds a lot of interesting plots. Even if he doesn’t get to wear the “real suit”, he could wear something with a mask like Oliver wears, and then HE COULD FLY!!!!!!!! This is the best Superman since Lois and Clark The New Adventures of Superman. Tom and Erica have the same great chemistry that Dean and Teri had, if not better. Keep up the good work CW and we’ll keep watching. We believe the best is yet to come!

    Hey smallville! 11. Brian

I’ve been watching the series from day one. It’s had a lot of ups and downs, but this season has for the most part been very very well done. I would love for them to continue into a ninth and final season so that all of the stories finally wrap up nicely. What I would like to see is Clark going up against an Darkseid. It could be a series long event where the entire world is in danger. Such a danger that Clark has no choice but to show him self to the world, and truly take that leap forward towards becoming the hero he’s supposed to be. In doing so they could bring back original cast members such as Martha Kent and (in flash backs) Jonathan Kent and of course Lex.

Darkseid may be pushing it, but they need to give him that enemy that would push him properly.

  12. Devix

I think that the season nine is a good idea. . .we should finaly see Superman, and his passion for Lois Lane. .. Erica Durance is perfect for this roll .. . I hope that the season 9 will come out soon. . .we are waiting for it! Best regards from Serbia.

  13. rogue

i love smallville!!! i have seen EVERY single episode, and love season 1, 7, and 8 the best!! season 9 is going to be amazing!!! however im really hoping they bring Lois Laine into it more. they have spent a little too much time on the whole “Lana” subject. i mean its cool now that she’s on her way to fighting crime or whatever but her and Clark should be done. i think Clark needs to FINALLY learn how to fly, and then they should bring the justice league into the story some more. they kind-of lost that amazing attribute in season 8, even though those guys are totally awesome!! i cant wait for the next seaons!!!

  14. Dan

I love Smallville. it is time that Clark flies, and suit is made. Also, this is supposed to be about Clark Kent and his early years. Why must so much time be spent on Doomsday. That is supposed to be in the later years of Superman. So, many more things couldhave beeen done with Clark if it wasnt for this stupid subplot. Lets focus on Clark more in season 9 please.

  15. Bonnie Ostrander

I love Smallville, and I would love to see a Season 9. I certainly hope Jimmy Olsen (Aaron Ashmore) isn’t the one dead. I find him delightful. I can do without Doomsday (Davis Bloom–Actor, Sam Witwer).

  16. shawn

i feel great!!!! i love smallville so much i wacth it all most all the time i cant wait to see smallville season nine and i need to see clark kent fly . wow wow i am so glad it back :-)

  17. Priscilla

Smallville, oh my God, I love it!!!! this is the bomb Show, I don’t know what my eyes will do without Smallville. For chole she need to stay in the show no matter what, lois, oliver Queens so hot!!!!!!! he cant dead noway, I think its time for Clrak Kent learn to fly, and please bring back Kara, she is the only Family he has, dont dear take her away from him, Noway cant work. The girl that is working for Lex, I HATE HER WITH A PASSION, I rather Lex Luther, and why the hell after Lionel Luther Converted to being good, he is dead, bring him back. Smallville need to continue as long as it can. From Jamaica

  18. Isa

Yipeeeeee, just the news that I was looking for. Awesome!!!!!!!!!!!

  19. David Taylor

I’ve been a fan of Superman since I was four years old; I literally learned how to read by reading Superman comic books. Smallville, despite it’s many variations from the Superman story lines established over the years, is the best version ever done. It found a way to re-energize the myths I grew up loving. I confess that I loved the Lana/Clark stories, and always hoped the producers/writers were going to find a way for fans to have it both ways, with Lana’s spirit or essence, somehow transfered into Lois’s body. My friends and I came up with all sorts of scenarios for this, and discovered over the years that this body swap solution had been done a number of times in other sci-fi/fantasy stories. Therefore, I was deeply disappointed with the obstacle the writers came up with to keep Lana and Clark apart “forever.” It had so many ridiculous plot holes and required Clark and Lana’s IQ’s to drop about sixty points to make it work. There were just too many ways to have solved the problem of Lex’s Kryptonite bomb — and afterwards, even more ways to overcome Lana’s kryptonite infusion. I understand how choices the writers made with the Lana/Clark connection in previous seasons eroded fan goodwill toward Lana, but I still believe not only could that be turned around, I think they could actually use the publicized apathy/animosity of some fans to dramatic advantage in the way that J.K. Rowling completely flipped fan’s hatred of Severus Snape in the Harry Potter series.

Setting aside my own romantic hopes for a happier future for Lana and Clark, I think Smallville has barely scratched the surface of story possibilities. The Superman character is a unique phenomenon that has thrived in one format or another for over seventy years, and it’s “Chosen One/Savior/Hero” archetype underpinning is one of the most enduring myths in human history, possibly the most enduring.

So any suggestion that Smallville has exhausted it’s dramatic possibilities and overstayed it’s welcome is preposterous. The show’s producers just need to continue to bring talented new people to the show, in every capacity, not just writers, and the show could be a huge source of profits for decades.

Some specific story lines to explore:

The multiple universe angle, always popular in sci-fi, most recently used in the Star Trek re-boot. Comic books have used it successfully for at least fifty years.

Clark meets his counterpart from other universe’s; in one he’s happily married to Lana, in one Lois, in one he’s become the ruler of the world, in one he’s been enslaved as a human fusion reactor that powers the planet, in one he has children with Lois or Lana that also have super powers, or don’t… Having an occasional “Imaginary Tale” frees the show to do anything. They’ve already used this conceit a number of times on Smallville, and it’s still a viable device. it just needs good execution.

The hidden “princess” trope: Lori Lemaris from Atlantis Atlantis could be developed.

    The death of Marth Kent

Kandor, bottled city would be great fun, and played a role in one of my scenarios for allowing Lana and Clark to be together.

The re-boot show that would have explained how Lex wouldn’t know that Clark was superman. That’s an easy one to do.

As a reward for some great deed, Clark is given a gift from another dimension — in the form of a pair of special glasses that warp perception. When he wears them no one can think he’s Superman. :) He still has to work to maintain his secret identity, but he has a plausible way to do it without Lex and Lois and everyone else having to be complete morons, or suffer from multiple head traumas.

My romantic favorite, Kristin Kruek assumes Lois Lane’s identity. The “whinier” aspects of her character which many fans disliked, are eliminated by her merging with Lois. This merge also eliminates many of Lois’s more irritating traits, so she’s the perfect mate for Superman/Clark, without being boring.

The introduction of Wonder Woman or a version of her. Wonder Girl is a great rival for Lois.

    Other characters to introduce

    The Phantom Stranger

    The Green Lantern Corps

    Batman

    The Spectre

The Original 1939 version of Superman, exhausted and broken by the cataclysmic loss of his friends and family, and his failure to prevent a global crisis, stumbles into Smallville’s universe. Clark and his older counterpart teach each other, and heal each other, enabling each to solve some central issue before, the older Superman returns, spirit and determination restored to take up the fight to save his planet, etc.

Okay, I apologize for making this such a long post!

  20. Clark Kent

Well for starters, I’d like for them to bring Jimmy Olsen back. Then yeah, I’d love to see more of Oliver Queen. It’d be awesome to see more of Justin Hartley in action again. Also I already have an idea for a story plot. What if Clark meets his future counterpart, Superman? The Red-Blue Blur and Superman works alongside each other to stop Darkseid. I’d also like it if there was a new addition to Oliver Queen’s team, such as this hero: Batman. It’d be awesome to see how Clark finally meets Bruce Wayne! And also for the return of Lana Lang. It’d be awesome… Anyway I’m also making stories about my own fictional character who meets Clark Kent in Smallville:) it’d be awesome if one day I could show it lol

  21. spectrum

as meny people want to see the smallvile version of batman that could be soon perhaps even leading to the compassion superman perhaps even being the end villain or just a one episode enemy to bond batman and superman perhaps even being superman and batman joined

  22. Dan The man

They have to have Clark fly in Season 9!!!!. They showed him flying at the end of season 8 when he defeated doomsday. Ive waited 8 seasons to see him fly and they show him flying in the doomsday episode for 30 seconds. so thus he NEEDS to fly!!!!!!!!!!

  23. spectrum

he didn’t fly he just did a large jump like he did in the original comics before they desided to give him the power to fly

  24. Alfred

i think the sesons so far have been great. but no need of prolonging the whole thing, with the way the series is going i think there might be a season 10. give the fans what they want, just let clark fly!!! every one wants to see him fly.

  25. Alfred

almost forgot, i think its time lois and clark got together, what’s the essence of the series if the farmboy doesn’t turn to be a superhero(you know the one with a cape and all that).

  26. CK

I’ve been a fan of Smallville since season 1 and I really enjoy every episodes that I’ve seen. I’m really happy when they will continue season 9. I can’t wait to see how he learn to fly. Awesome!!!

  27. Spanish fan

I have a suggestion for the screenwriters of the ninth season (by the way, thank you for your wonderful scripts, they are the best!!!): Even I believe that Clark should finish falling in love with Chloe, if Clark and Lois fall in love, I think that Chloe and Green Arrow would also make a brilliant couple (the love’s story could be great!!!, imagine!!! It could be great!!!). Don’t you think so?
And I miss the old Green Arrow, the one who wasn´t be able to kill anybody

So,I hope Justin Hartley is in every chapters of the ninth season

what dont get is why braineac siad to chloe what will you becume and then he made her into a braineac so maby chloe is an even more dangerous monster

  29. Zero

I would like season 9, clarks flyin etc, flying thing would go like, in last ep of s8 he “lost hes faith on himself” so somehow he loose hes powers, then he lives normally at Daily planet, and one day he falls down from something and near ground – whoop – hes floading, at first flyin is only power he has and learning it and getting hes “faith” back, then lois (wich was teleportet to future) finds back to present and some villain from future comes with her too, then we would have two villains for clark (the one from future and the one what appeared at last ep of s8 end) lois knows now about clark being “superman” and speaking to present clark of that, and clark gets hes powers back again and lois makes the suit for clark which she saw from future clark, and giving it to him, then of episode 1 of season 9 ;)

  30. Sandra

Smallville should be the longest running show in the history of television! It is awesome. I would like to see Clark fly but if not that’s ok too. Chloe, Green Arrow, Lois all should come back also. And I mean for seasons, 9, 10, 11, and on and on.

  31. Nick

It’s amazing to see in modern something that can continue to grow. In a world of fast and the even faster its nice to know one night a week you can send down with your love ones and enjoy a show. Everyone is always quick to shut things down these days, claiming things are past there usefullness just because of a couple angry bloggers. I’m glad Tom Welling hasn’t struck out chasing big time movie scripts and stuck to what should be the greatest role anyone could play: Superman. Congradulations to Smallville for their record, and i applaud you for keeping your show going, giving me a reason to still watch tv, and allowing me to feel eager to know what happens next about something.

  32. Bboy_Sl|m
