So You Think You Can Dance: Thoughts About All the Changes This Season

Now that we’ve had half of the sixth season of So You Think You Can Dance to get used to a permanent third judge, Adam Shankman, I thought it would be a good idea to pause and reflect on how it has affected the show.

I’d like to start by saying that I do really like Adam and he was always one of the guest judges that I enjoyed seeing. That being said, I also miss many of the other choreographers who acted as guest judges. It gave us a chance to get to know them a bit more than from just the intro clips.

I especially miss Lil C’s wonderful, superfluous and verbose judgment renderings. (I can try, but he just does it so much better!) ;-)

I miss hearing from fresh points of view now and then on the judge panel. But that doesn’t mean that I am disappointed in their choice for the third judge. Adam is terrific! It’s just me. I enjoy things with a bit of variety.

And what about that new stage? I miss the old one with the stairs and little platforms all around. This new one is bigger and has more light effects to it, but I really did like the old one. This is a change I don’t have an upside for.

I know that Nigel Lythgoe wants to see Paula Abdul as a guest judge, but I want to see her and other people in that role. I’d enjoy it if now and then they had one of the other choreographers, or Ellen Degeneres again. Who cares if Ellen’s not technically knowledgeable about dance? I loved her guest judge appearance!

What do you think about the changes this season? Do you like them or wish things hadn’t changed. Or am I the only dork that cares one way or the other, since the real point of the show is the amazing dancers? I’d love it if you would leave a comment to let me know what you think!
