Solange Knowles - New Album In The Works?

solange knowles r&b live concert series 8

Solange Knowles looks like she’s making the sign for “loser” in this picture but I don’t think she’s talking about herself. This girl is moving up and quietly securing her spot in the entertainment industry.

Now, it looks like Solange will be releasing a new album sometime in the near future. Here’s the story I read:

After earning credits for writing some of her sister’s tracks, Solange Knowles finally takes the position behind the mic herself. The younger sister of Beyonce Knowles is gearing up the work of an “old sixties and seventies” record that will be released in the first quarter of 2008.

The album is called ‘Solange & The Hadley Street Dreams’ and it is part of Solange’s project where she gets involved 90 percent in the writing. “I’ve written 80 to 90 percent of everything on my new album,” she said in an interview with Essence magazine. “The one co-write I do have is with Bilal. Other than him, I have Q-Tip on the record, who is someone I grew up admiring as an artist, and I have a song with Marsha Ambrosius from Floetry.”

Solange also explained that the second album almost did not happen due to her commitment to family. She said, “I wasn’t going to do another record because I didn’t want to be in the limelight. I liked staying home with my son and expressing myself through writing. But things happened in my life that I wanted to discuss and vent about, so that’s how the record came about.”

The album that follows 2003’s ‘Solo Star’ is described as “a melting pot of old sixties and seventies soul mixed with electronica.” Solange said that she has more guts to go against her label’s wish this time, and that there is much more “confident” than the last one.

Solange has co-written ‘Upgrade U’ and ‘Get Me Bodied’ that appears on Beyonce’s 2006 album ‘B’Day’.

I rooting for her! It’s got to be tough to be Ms. B’s younger sister so I’m hoping she can come out of the shadows and make a name for herself!
