This weekend I finally had a chance to watch the season finale of Supernatural, starring Gilmore Girls alumn Jared Padalecki (Dean on Gilmore Girls). And WOW. What a season. I’ve always thought this was their strongest season – so much growth in the characters, but also a lot of fun stuff thrown in. Very creative (remember the black/white episode?).

Jared Padalecki had a lot of inner turmoil to portray this season. His character, Sam Winchester, had to battle his inner “evil” self, the demon blood that was forced into him as a baby. Sam wanted to turn that into something good – a way to take down Lilith, who threatened to break the 66 seals keeping the devil in prison. But his brother Dean (Jensen Ackles) worried that Sam was being used by the demons. And when he became a blood addict… that was disturbing.
In the end, Sam and Dean fought over who would be the one to save the world from Lilith. And the end was a shocker. What a set-up for Season 5! I won’t spoil it for you, in case you haven’t yet seen it, but there’s a lot of trouble in store for our Winchester boys next season!
What did you think?

Spoilers be damned! The season finale was EPIC! I am very much with you in thinking that this was by far the best season; in fact, as much as I can’t wait for the upcoming season, I can’t imagine how it could top this one.
Supernatural basically doubled their mythology by introducing God, heaven, and angels, and did it all in some of the most wickedly awesome ways.
Thinking now, it reminded me of Season 6 of Gilmore Girls – how for the first time, Rory and Lorelai are apart. This whole season of Supernatural was pulling Sam in one direction (hell) and Dean in the opposite (heaven). Remember at the start of the series, when Dean seemed harsher, more stoic, and willing to make the tough choices? And Sam was the more understanding one, the good cop, the devil’s advocate (lol). Through the progression of the series their characters totally one-eightied. That’s hard to pull off, so kudos to the guys in charge.
Plus the season was chock-full of new and exciting stuff. The episodes concerning Dean and torture, Sam sucking blood, the high school flashback, the storylines of new characters Anna and Chuck, Ruby’s mysterious agenda, and above all, the character Castiel (played to perfection by Mischa Collins) made this a pretty freakin’ incredible season.

Agreed, this was by far the best season of Supernatural. I can’t imagine how they will top this for season 5. Just very smart writing. Give this show an Emmy!
