Supernatural Season 5 Review

Since our last review of this season of Supernatural, Sam (Jared Paladecki, Dean on Gilmore Girls) & Dean have been fighting to stop the apocalypse. Very little progress has been made, to that end. Though we have met the Devil, he hasn’t been forefront in recent episodes.

The recent episodes have been dealing with more “immediate” issues, apocalypse related or not. Just classic bad-guy destruction. However, despite some lower ratings, I think the season has been incredibly creative and even funny! In last week’s episode, for example, the series poked fun at other tv shows via the sadistic work of the trixter. It’s these comedic elements that make Supernatural stand out among other tv shows. You can also tell when the writers are giving a shout-out to the superfans, which I think is awesome.

Here’s a synopsis of tonight’s episode from the CW.com:

“Sam (Jared Padalecki), Dean (Jensen Ackles) and Castiel (Misha Collins) track down the Colt and head off to find Lucifer (guest star Mark Pelligreno) to send him back to Hell. It’s a hunters’ reunion when the crew joins forces with Bobby (Jim Beaver), Ellen (guest star Samantha Ferris) and Jo (guest star Alona Tal) for what could be their last night on Earth.”
