Tara Oram is Thankful for Support

tara oramTara Oram is grateful for the support she’s been receiving from her home province. Here’s an interview with the Canadian Idol country girl:

Tara Oram has two simple words for her supporters Newfoundland and Labrador — thank you.

The Top-8 competitor on Canadian Idol and Hare Bay native is spending her days in a whirlwind of activities from learning new songs and chatting with media, to shopping and hanging out with her eight friends at the Idol mansion. That is, when she’s not singing in front of hundreds of people at the John Bassett Theatre in Toronto and millions of people on television.

She said the support she’s receiving is tremendous, although she’s well insulated from that right now. When she has a spare minute or, to for a phone call home, he mother fills her in on the happenings and the Idol fever that’s surrounding the 23-year-old blonde.

Oram said she didn’t expect the support that she’s gotten.

“I just wanted to go in, be myself, do my best and see what came out of it,” Oram said. “What’s going on these days is just absolutely a dream come true.

“You know what, It’s not possible without the support of your fans. It wouldn’t be possible if you didn’t have people supporting you because they make this show.”

Only time will tell if the votes she gets will push her past Craig Sharpe and Rex Goudie who made the province proud with back-to-back runner-up finishes.

She said nearly everyone in the competition stepped up their game this week, which is a pattern of things to come. She knows she has to improve every week in order to stay.

After singing a version of the Dwight Yoakam twist on Elvis’ Suspicious Minds on Monday’s show, her determination is evident.

She acknowledged it was a much more pop sound that the audience was used to seeing from her and the rave reviews. That could be a sign of things to come, she said.

“We’re going to have a lot of great theme weeks and they’re not going to be always involving country music,” she said. “I’m really excited about that because this week I took a risk and I think it worked for the better for me. “The response was overwhelming. It gives me more motivation for next week and the weeks to come, hopefully, to do something different and really get out of my comfort zone and grow as an artist.”
