Markai Durham is our favorite new castmember from 16 And Pregnant. Mostly because she is simultaneously smart and crazytown. And since we can’t stop repeating some Markaisms around Crushable’s offices this week, we decided to compile a best of list for you. Enjoy!*
*Things you should know: Markai likes to start every word with a capital letter when she types. I have no idea what this creative capitalization is about, but thought it best to retain her original typing stylez.
1. It’s not all honey and roses, baby.
During an interview with Radar, Markai explained what advice she would give to potential teen moms:
“It’s not all honey and roses. You have to give up all your free time, and you have to be the best mom you can be. Forget the words having fun in your teenage years because it’s not happening. When your friends call you and ask you “hey girl what are you doing tonight? You want to go out?” You might as well say ’ hell no, I can’t go out for another 18 more years.”
To anyone who thinks that teen pregnancy is all honey and roses: woah. Use a condom. To everyone else: please say this. All the time.
2. Markai and her friends had a pact to lose their virginity on the same night. Wow.
Someone on Formspring (now deleted) asked Markai if James was her first:
“No I Didn’t (Sadly To Say) Me && My Friends Had This Pact That By The Time We Left High School We Would All Lose Our Virginity On Te Same Night (Stupid Ass Bet Huh) I Regret It Every Time I Make Love To James”
3. Markai thinks her domestic violence scenes aren’t as bad as Amber Portwood’s
The fight between Markai and James made it into the trailer for this season’s 16 and Pregnant. And brought MTV a lot of flack. But Markai thinks her slapping was justified:
“Once you know why you’ll understand, Amber hits Gary for no reason, my reason was very touching & emotional.”
4. On her bisexuality
From Formspring: Are you still bi; and how is the baby doing?
“I Check Out Girls With James Sometimes. But We’re In A Commited Relationship. So I Guess No.”
5. Oh. Those tattoos.
When watching Markai’s episode of 16 And Pregnant, you’ll notice during her birthing scene that she has a massive inner thigh tattoo. But the reality of Markai’s ink goes so, so much further. From Formspring:
“Yes I Have 9 …. one on my stomach that says juicy (which i regret it was my first tattoo) james first and last name on my right and left thigh with a crown over his first name , i have two paw prints each in between my thighs scratching (my second tattoo which i regret) and za’karia’s feet prints on my two feet with her name and the date she was born (i’m gettin stars added to it) … i love tattoo’s ! its the thing that helps me relax so much. we go like once a month to get more.”
