Lauren Graham‘s new ABC pilot, The Bridget Show, also known as Let it Go, may be dead in the water.
The pilot episode was screening to critics during upfront week. Variety said last week that Let it Go had “mixed reviews but shouldn’t be counted out.” However, this week their insider says that Lauren Graham’s comedy pilot at ABC is “believed to be dead”. They continue:
ABC execs remain fans of Graham — but the pilot, about a talkshow host who must follow her own advice when her life falls apart, is said to have fallen flat in the screening room.
It is sometimes true that things don’t always come together as well as you’d expect in the pilot stage. Sometimes it’s casting, sometimes it’s writing, sometimes it’s the core idea. Just look at what happened to The Return of Jezebel James – Amy Sherman-Palladino wasn’t able to create a hit, despite her witty writing.

Perhaps the story line was a little too restrictive, and that’s the reason of the flop. She loses her boyfriend, and then what! It’s difficult to be really credible after that, and the public is always very sensitive.
Yet, the idea could have been set in some larger background, while giving counsels would have been not the principal activity. For instance, she could own a wedding dress shop renowned for the advices every bridegroom receives, bad or good, something always happens…
She would probably be known as a matchmaker. The first episode would for instance be about some guy she wanted a girl to marry, and the girl would choose another guy, but since Bridget would have made everything in movement, she would have matters to auto-congratulate.
So, when the incident occurs, even if she still goes on giving advices, the audience would accept the contract. The public is aware of the need of overreacting in such situation. Good or bad advices, it wouldn’t really matter: “She must react” That only matters… that would be credible… Opposition of style and contradiction could be drawn easily. For instance, some advices given could be followed in an impulse by some acerbic critiques about the institution itself…
As for the major character, there would probably be one or two shop assistants, one probably her very long friend and perhaps partner… Outside of this microcosm, the future boyfriend, or future husband, perhaps… he would be a confirmed bachelor… having some cynical thoughts about the way women reacts, or women characters in general. Yet, after some inner and mysterious process, he would have to reconsider.
Bridget would have one or two children that would, of course never follow her advices.
A guest star in every episode would receive some sorts of funny counsels that she, or he may follow, or not… for the worst or the very best…

[...] Lauren Graham’s ABC pilot, which was not picked up for a full season after its critic screening, Czuchry’s The Good Wife got the green [...]
Suzi – I love your suggestions.
Nil Wren – I also do think that there is some kind of natural balance.
When you don’t achieve something completely or disappoint people who have done nothing but always supported you, you get some kind of “payback”.
I’m sorry I can’t find the words in English to express what I think but I’m sure you get my point. :)
I know some you think we should let go but I truyly believe everything will be back into place in the universe once our favourite show gets the proper ending it deserves, as do we.
Hi
Thanks claire – found you. Im on there as Brinkleydaizy.
Mac – How about as susan Myers sister in Desperate house wives or yet another illigitamate walker in B&S lol
Yes, “Mac”, and of course Gilmore Girls, you know that incredible show that still needs a real ending!
Yeeepipip, hooray!!!!
That’s also may be a lesson that tells Amy Sherman-Palladino that GG was not finished when she left and started the Return of Jezebel James, and in a certain extend, the same thing happens now with Lauren Graham and The Bridget Show. That’s a law of nature: Every task must have a proper ending. Perhaps the luck will come to them, (we still love), again if they finish what they have started. I hope…
I wasn’t thrilled about the plot but I really wanted to give it a shot, for Lauren.
However I do think that instead of a new show – it looks like it’s getting harder and harder to lauchn something new without failing – she should join one which is already solid.
Don’t know why but I could totally picture her – and I would love too – become part of Brothers ans Sisters, Desperate Housewives or Grey’s Anatomy or even a crime show. Just to name a few…
Thats sad was looking forward to seeing it. Lauren is amazing i hope it still going to air.
Hi Suzi
There isn’t one link in particular – just variety, EW, Ausiello etc.
If you’re on Twitter i’m ClaireEm86.
I would still love to see the pilot – I wonder if it will be available anywhere!
Not good news at all.
Didnt lauren do another sit com or pilot that tanked as well? – maybe its like the seinfeld curse lol.
Claire could you let me know what the twitter link is so I can keep an eye out please?
Suzi x
Yes, the creating process is always terribly difficult. And in Show Business, they often have to work on a hurry. They too often have no time to let it mature enough in their mind, and the public feels and react. That’s a lesson that tells us to work and iron again, whatever we do… Of course, I love Lauren Graham so much that I’d have been very happy if she had succeed. But what a tremendous achievement. Think of what she’s has learned in the field of entertainment. For the creative process involves so many things that the artist always benefits of.
Oh no,I hate it they doing like that for Lauren’s abc new show.I hope she make more new movie in the future than tv,but never know.
Bummer! I was looking forward to it. Anything Lauren does is great, but yes I guess its true I’d rather see her in a fun and successful show than one that is mediocre.
Yeah – I’ve been following it’s progress on Twitter and it went from “promising” to “dead” within a few days! Apparantley it was met with cricket in the screenings :-/
But hey, everyone is still positive about Lauren so i’m thinking it’s not because of her! I for one would love to see her have a great character in a great show rather than one that is mediocre.
Didn’t she say a while back too that she was expecting the first tv show she did after GG to fail?! Lauren Nostradamus Graham!
Well here’s hoping for something better in the future – que sera!
