I love talking about new TV shows — but a show I REALLY, REALLY can’t wait to start is NBC’s new cop ensemble drama Southland from Emmy Award-winning drama series ER executive producer John Wells.
Southland will take the coveted ER spot at 10 to 11 p.m. ET/PT on Thursday nights starting on April 9.
Southland is a raw and authentic look at a police unit in Los Angeles. From the beaches of Malibu to the streets of East Los Angeles, Southland is described as a fast-moving drama that will take viewers inside the lives of cops, criminals, victims and their families.
Michael Cudlitz (A River Runs Through It) plays John Cooper, a seasoned Los Angeles cop, assigned to train young rookie Ben Sherman (Benjamin McKenzie, The O.C.).
Cooper’s honest, no-nonsense approach to the job leaves Sherman questioning whether or not he has what it takes to become a police officer.
Cudlitz and McKenzie are joined by other cast members, including Regina King (Ray, Jerry Maguire), who plays Detective Lydia Adams. Adams lives with and is the primary caregiver of her mother.
Her partner, Detective Russell Clarke (Tom Everett Scott, Boiler Room) is an unhappily married father of three.
Michael McGrady (The Thin Red Line) plays Detective Daniel “Sal” Salinger. Sal oversees fellow gang detectives Nate Moretta (Kevin Alejandro, Drive, Ugly Betty) and Sammy Bryant (Shawn Hatosy, Alpha Dog).
Arija Bareikis (Crossing Jordan) plays patrol officer Chickie Brown, a single mom who dreams of being the first woman accepted into SWAT.
I have to admit that most of my excitement revolves around The O.C.’s Benjamin McKenzie being on a new drama. There was something that he brought to the role of Ryan Atwood that just made him come alive to me on the show, and I’ve been a fan ever since.
But beyond McKenzie, Southland has a totally awesome cast. Just knowing that Regina King will be on the show is a big draw to me. I really believe this show – if promoted right – can be a big hit for NBC.

Regina King (Jerry Maguire, Miss Congeniality 2: Armed and Fabulous) plays Lydia Adams, a dedicated daughter and detective in NBC’s new drama series Southland.
Tom Everett Scott (That Thing You Do!) portrays Detective Russell Clarke in NBC’s new drama series Southland.
Kevin Alejandro (Shark) stars as gang detective and family man, Nate Moretta, in NBC’s new drama series Southland.
Arija Bareikis stars as patrol officer Chickie Brown, a single mom who dreams of being the first woman accepted into SWAT, in NBC’s new drama series Southland.
Shawn Hatosy (Alpha Dog) stars as gang detective Sammy Bryant in NBC’s new drama series Southland.

this show is my new addiction apart from prison break and ghost whisperer i hope they keep it on the air its wonderful to see some thing real on tv for once the police system is so much like this over worked and under paid good job creaters good job

Ben Mckenzie is a really great actor. i know he’ll do a good job and i can’t wait to see him as a cop this time. the first time i ever knew about him was from the oc, and since then, i always thought he was a talented person…

..that’s because in reality that is what those parts of LA are like, specially the high-crime areas. This is what the show is really about, definitly not like the OC, which was a great series.
The song from the previews is “Orange Sky” by Alexi Murdoch.
This looks awful. I would never watch it. It looks like the police force in Atlanta or Washington DC. It looks nothing like Southern California. I hope it gets canceled.

I can’t wait for this show. They should have never taken Third Watch off the air.
oh please, looking forward to seeing benjamin mckenzie? im sorry but everyone i know is looking forward to seeing michael mcgrady, hes a way better actor then all of em in my opinion
