Well kiddies, I just discovered that all that money I spent buying a Tivo Series 2 DVR and a three year subscription was a gigantic waste. My main reason for buying it was so I could download Medium as well as talk show appearances by the cast, then create screen shots and short video clips to show you here on Medium Dreams.
Now I find out that sort of thing is frowned upon to the point it is against Tivo’s licensing agreement. So they encrypt or otherwise sabotage files you create when you transfer recorded programs from the Tivo box to your computer.
I am so disgusted. I suppose it is to prevent people from uploading entire shows to YouTube but really, it makes me feel like Tivo assumes all of its customers are video pirates before it ever even occurred to me I might want to be a video pirate.
Life is so unfair.

Those tricksters! Maybe you can find an old Series 1 Tivo that has older software without the protections. Or skip Tivo and by a gadget that allows you to record without being subjected to the protection software.
My comment posted! Thank you for fixing whatever kept my comments from showing up immediately.
Yay! I just kept clicking the box to tell Akismet it wasn’t spam each time you left a comment. It finally “learned!”
