diving-bel.pngOne of the more incredibly moving films of recent years is The Diving Bell and the Butterfly, with French actor Mathieu Amalric (pictured above). Here’s what the film is about: a journalist with everything going for him suffers a massive, massive stroke. He wakes up in the hospital some days later with only the ability to move his left eyelid. That’s it. He goes on to write a book using this left eyelid to blink signals for letters/words; each word took him 2 minutes to write. Ten days after the book was published, the author died. Yep, it’s a true story, which makes it that much harder to watch; however, it is truly one of the most moving films I’ve ever had the privilege to see.

Here are a few clips; first, his efforts to spell something out:

Acclimating:

And the trailer:

Truly an amazing film; if you get the chance to see it, I highly recommend it. The Diving Bell and the Butterfly will be out on DVD April 29, 2008.
