The Good Wife 1.05 "Crash" Discussion

the-good-wife-06.jpgIn this episode of The Good Wife, ‘Crash’ , Alicia (Juliana Margulies) is working with Will (Josh Charles) on a case about a train wreck; they represent the three widows suing the train company for overworking them. The train company doesn’t want to settle, but instead wants to blame the men. It’s a very interesting case with lots of stuff coming up all the time. Meanwhile, the three main sub-stories of the episode involve Alicia’s husband & his mother taking the kids to see him, Alicia and Cary (Matt Czuchry, Logan on Gilmore Girls) trying to hire a new assistant, and Kalinda (Archie Panjabi) being asked by Diane (Christine Baranski) to investigate a possible “partner.” Some of my thoughts from the episode…

- Alicia needs to set some boundaries with her mother-in-law! That looks to be coming to blows quite soon.
- Alicia is still having trouble deciding whether or not she’ll forgive her husband and accept him back some day. I hope she doesn’t, but that’s just me. What do you think?
- Perhaps I missed it, but why were Cary & Alicia looking for a new assistant anyway? What happened to the old one?
- Did Cary not have other cases, is that why he seemed to be in charge of lining people up for the interviews?
- Do you think the person they hired will end up working more with Alicia – that Cary won’t be able to abuse that relationship?
- Do you see sparks between Will and Alicia, as her husband suspects?
- Yay for Kalinda for standing up to Diane! She handled that whole situation with amazing grace. Really love her character.
- I thought the legal issues in this case were good, but they almost played a backdrop to the evolving richness of the other characters on the show. I think this is the first time I’ve felt that way in an episode.

What did you think of this episode? Has the series grown on you now after 5 episodes?

They had to hire a new assistant because the one in pilot was played by Gillian Jacobs. Gillian was also in the pilot of Community. But because both were picked-up and Community gave her a series regular position, she decided to give up the recurring role on TGW
