One of the new shows which I believe will have a chance this fall is The Mentalist starring Simon Baker, set to premiere on Tuesday, Sept. 23 on CBS.
Golden Globe Award nominee Baker stars as Patrick Jane, an independent consultant with the California Bureau of Investigations (CBI), who is known for solving crimes by using his razor sharp skills of observation.
However, Jane also is known for his lack of protocol and his semi-celebrity past as a psychic medium, whose paranormal skills he now admits he made up.
In the premiere pilot, Jane, Senior Agent Teresa Lisbon (Robin Tunney) and her team investigate the double murder in Palm Springs of a pro golfer’s wife and her doctor, which has the markings of a serial killer with a personal connection to Jane.
Lisbon isn’t Jane’s biggest fan, having openly resisting having Jane in her unit, unless, of course, she needs him.
Lisbon’s team includes agents Kimball Cho (Tim Kang), Wayne Rigsby (Owain Yeoman) and rookie member Grace Van Pelt (Amanda Righetti), who all think Jane’s a loose cannon but admire his charm and knack for clearing cases.
Why do I think the show will do well? Baker is pretty awesome and I believe the show’s premise will be popular with the viewing audience.
I’m happy to see Amanda Righetti back on a series, especially as a main character, as she played the younger sister of Kirsten, Hailey Nichols on the O.C., as well as playing roles on North Shore and Reunion.
