The Most Interesting Amazing Race Cast Yet

The Race BeginsWhen the first episode of the latest season of CBS’s The Amazing Race aired, I was happy to see the diversity of the contestants and the variety of personalities represented. I knew in the first five minutes that this would be a great season.

And it needs to be, in order to follow the orange-pants-wearing, long haired duo, BJ and Tyler, last season’s winners. Everyone I know was rooting for them and was thrilled when they won. We want to love the winners this season too and with a cast this interesting, it should be fairly easy to find a favorite team to pull for.

Phil promised lots of new surprises this season, starting with an elimination before the teams even made it to the first pit stop. I was disappointed to see Bilal & Sa’eed leave the show before we even got a chance to get to know much about them. Other than that, we’re still waiting for the big surprises. I’m sure there will still be some before the season ends.

The choice to cast Peter & Sarah was a good one too. Sarah is an amputee and uses a prosthesis to walk and run in triathlons. Peter is a prosthetist so he understands her special issues and needs better than the rest of the teams. I heard several office conversations the day after the show aired the climb up the Great Wall of China and everyone was so moved by Sarah’s courage and the extra hardship she endured to get up that wall. This was truly great television to have inspired such emotion in the viewers.

Of course, this season has its usual, obligatory Ken and Barbie look-alike teams. But the really interesting teams are less predictable.

David & Mary, the coal miner and his wife bring a fresh, friendly demeanor to the race and truly try to help their competitors. On the flip side, they often are seen snapping at each other when the stress of the race gets bad. It will be interesting to see how far they get in the race.

Erwin & Godwin are the brothers who have a great sense of humor and draw us in with their closeness. Vipul & Arti were the second couple eliminated, leaving us wanting to know more about them too.

Duke & Lauren touched us all with Duke’s need to accept the fact that Lauren is gay. It was gratifying to see them come closer to each other and get past the issue with which they started the race.

As a true fan of the show, I look forward to seeing the teams progress through the challenges. And the places the race takes them is half the fun. It will be a blast to see where they go and what they’ll be asked to do to get to the end. It’s always a wild ride. Stay tuned and we’ll analyze it as the season progresses. And don’t forget to leave me comments to let me know your take on the show and its developments! I’m not the only one whose opinions matter!  I want to hear yours too!
