Although we’ve known about it for months, the sad news that the Gilmore Girls creators are indeed leaving the show comes with a down heart.
Now, don’t panic, just because Amy Sherman-Palladino (creator and writer) & Daniel Palladino (producer) are leaving, does not mean the show is over. Both Lauren Graham and Alexis Bledel have been signed on for another season. Phew!
"Despite our best efforts to return and ensure the future of ‘Gilmore Girls’ for years to come, we were unable to reach an agreement with the studio and are therefore leaving when our contracts expire at the end of this season," the couple says in a statement. "Our heartfelt thanks go out to our amazing cast, hard-working crew and loyal fans. We know that the story lines from this season will continue into the next, and that the integrity of the show will remain long after we leave Stars Hollow."
The sticking point between the couple and Warner Bros. TV, which produces "Gilmore Girls," was apparently over the length of a contract extension. Several news reports say the Palladinos wanted to continue the show beyond next season, but the studio offered only a one-year deal.
The show’s core cast, including stars Lauren Graham and Alexis Bledel, is only signed through next season, and The CW — which is being formed from a merger of The WB and UPN — has only committed to the series for a year at this point….

Now, this report of why the Palladinos are leaving is a bit odd. The last interview I put up had Amy citing a knowledge that the show would, in all likelihood, soon come to an end. That, though the show could have plots to the end of time, that would not necessarily be the best. And that, at some point, it was best that the show end. Same goes for the actors, who wanted to add some diversity to their careers.
Anyway, we’re glad that the show will continue and as a fan, I’m hopeful to see more seasons than just one! Despite how poorly Seventh Heaven did in repeats, let’s treat GG better!

ok enough german, i prefer english. and i agree with you melissa. the new writers will probally change everything. so sad… *sniff* but at least logan’s leavin, woohoo!
So sad… But maybe best to end it soon? Amy Sherman-Palladino IS Lorelai — how could another writer do the character justice?
Hallo! I’m from Germany and a big GG FAN !!!!
I love it, really!
Und jetzt noch ein paar Worte in deutsch…oder kann hier überhaupt jemand deutsch, egal. Bei uns in Deutschland kommt die sechste Staffel erst im Herbst’06 raus :(
Grüße noch alle GG FANS
my oh my! jeez i will be so bummed if they end the show! i hope it doesn’t end because I LOVE GiLMORE GiRLS!
WAAA!!!! only one more year??? make it ten!!! there are so many fans out there who will be devastated….gilmore girls is like a way of life to me!!!! :(:(
There’s no Gilmore Girls without them… :(( Whoever replaces them, it’s not the same. I think it’s the actors’ responsibility, from now on, to keep the original, genuine GG charm.
WOW! i can’t believe it. I hope they change their minds. But if they don’t, i hope the new writers brings Jess back to the show!
Wow…it’s hard to think about having new writers come up with the last season’s story-lines….will the witty puns and bits live up to their predecessor’s?? will the incrediably quick and delightful monologue stay the same?? I hope everything goes well with the Palladinos and I’m praying that the show continues to be a huge success!!!!!
I am so bummed!!! I hope that the show continues with such amazing quality. I imagine it would be heart-breaking and terrifying to leave your creation in someone else’s hands. Best wishes to the Palladinos.
