When Brad Pitt and his family decide to do something right, they don’t go halfway. The Pitt family (including Brad and Angelina), Doug and Lisa Pitt, and Rob and Julie (Brad’s sister) Neal all pooled together to donate $1 million to St. John’s Hospital.

St. John’s is part of six affiliates of the St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital and it has been re-named The Jane Pitt Pediatric Cancer Center in honor of Jane’s passion for children and the issues they sometimes face.
I love reading this type of story. Honestly, the movie news is always great for us as fans because it means more ways for us to see them as actors, but it’s reading about Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie’s passion for helping others – and obviously Brad’s entire family feels the same way! – that makes me smile the most.
Jane Pitt must be so honored to have such an important place named after her. She should be proud – she’s obviously raised some very fine people.

I’m so happy for the entire extended Pitt family – and of course that includes Angelina Jolie, whether explicitly mentioned or not. I salute them fortheir generosity and commitment to the well-being of their community. It must have been a family decision not to mention Angie by name. Angelina is such a polarizing figure (IMO, unfairly, but that’s the way the media and public has handled her – as the scapegoat for all things Jolie/Pitt/Aniston), that they didn’t want that issue to take over from the real reason for the event – honoring Jane Pitt and the establishment of the cancer treament wing.
As long as we don’t belabor the point, I think it’s OK to mention the h8ters, otherwise we’d be like ostriches sticking our heads in the sand because we have abundanct reminders of them 24/7/365. I read comments in reports about this donation that said something like “see, why doesn’t Angelina donate to American kids/causes like the Pitts?” completely and conveniently erasing her out of the family picture. Conveniently developing amnesia about the $1M the Jolie-Pitt Foundation donated to treat kids of American servicemen/women and Iraqi kids affected by the war, and Angelina partnering with Microshoft’s KIND initiative assuring legal representation for immigrant kids who are all alone by themselves, not to mention the donation made to the Ozark schools last year.

Phoebe – I think that Pax still speaks some Vietnamese since he was already three years old when his parents adopted him. Although he hasn´t visited his home country after that his parents sure have helped him to be in contact with his origins by hiring a Vietnamese speaking nanny who makes sure that although his main language nowadays is English he still can speak his native language also in the future. Mad can also speak some of his native language – Khmer – and when the time is right I´m certain that Brad and Angie will take care of it that also Zahara learns some of her native language – whatever that is. I don´t know what the official language of Ethiopia is. Is it Arabic or Swahili? The twins will also learnt French since they were born in Nice. Also Shi will learn it since Mad and Pax already speak a little bit of French and France seems to be the Jolie-Pitts´ other home country nowadays. So hopefully also Angie and Brad will learn the language. It´s a beautiful language. Hopefully the JPs will have a great summer vacation somewhere no matter how short it´ll be because of Brad´s filming schedule. God bless the JPs!
Phoebe – I think that Pax still speak some Vietnamese since he was after all three years old when Angie and Brad adopted him. And besides they sure have a nanny who speaks Vietnamese so that he (Pax) won´t forget his native language. All the JP kids are naturally Americans now but Maddox, Pax and Zahara will always have some connection to their homoe countries in one way or the other. Brad and Angie certainly want them to learn about their native countries, cultures and even to learn their native languages. Mad already speaks some Khmer, Pax still can talk Vietnamese and when Zee is older she, too, will learn her native language whatever it is. I don´t know the official language of Ethiopia. The twins will sure learn French since they were born in Nice and also Shi will learn French like all the other JP kids since France seems to be their favorite country after the US.
I love this photo very much showing the family unite especially angie and jane.
They are both mother and they love their children very much and also united in helping other chidren in need.
^
pax wasn’t a baby when angelina and brad adopted him.
of course the jolie-pitt kids will be american’s , as their parents are american and that is where the kids spend most of their time.
but maddox will always be of cambodian descent, zahara ethiopian descent etc.
I’m sure they expose their kids to their native culture thru foods, history, language etc. I know they had a teacher/nanny who is multilingual. Brad mentioned on Larry King or the Today Show that the kids know their native flags and location on globe,I’m sure that they are familiar with their native foods.Angie has mentioned that Mad can speak some Khmer. I’m sure they will visit Vietnam like they visited Cambodia in 2006 so Pax will feel more connected to his homeland. I know they are American but its important that they know about their ethnicity
i think the problem with adopting a kid from a different culture when the kid is still a baby is that the kid has no connection or roots to his/her original culture. Madd and Pax are Americans, they don´t even speak their native tongue (or does Pax speak vietnamese?)…..Madd and Pax can´t increase mutual respect for each others cultures because their culture is not vietnamese or cambodian anymore. a child from southamerica would be a good idea though i agree….
I hope they adopt from a country other than Ethiopia. Angie mentioned in an interview that Mad is learning about Vietnam because of Pax.Vietnam and Cambodia have a had strained relationship thru history but now these boys(brothers)may be able to increase mutual respect and understanding of these two cultures.I think it would great If they adopted a child of African ancestry from a Latin American country like Brazil ,Columbia ,Haiti etc then the family could learn Spanish, Portuguese or Creole.
Stratoula – thanks to the link to Julie Neal´s letter. It was a wonderful letter. And those bears that have the Jolie-Pitt´s children´s names and the flags of their birth countries are absolutely beautiful. I´m sure that Zahara is excited to have a cousin who´s also from Ethiopia. Those two will sure be close to one another. But still it would be nice if she would have a baby sister who´s originally from Ethiopia. Hopefully Angie and Brad will tell her what her birth name was or maybe she already knows. Still she sure likes her current name – Zahara Marley – better. Jane and Bill sure are very proud of their three children and 14 grandchildren. God bless the Jolie-Pitts, the Pitts and the Neals!
@Mary Ann: why mention the h*ters?! is it even the least important how these people will react? no. and speaking of Jane and Angie – its just stupid rumors that these two don´t get along, not even worth mentionning.
(and yes it is possible to help out with the grandchildren without liking your daughter/son inlaw….sadly…not in this case, just speaking generally.)
but one question – where is Angie mentionned? why didn´t they mention her by name but all the other familymembers? or did i miss it?
i agree with most of you: Jane must be very proud and happy – and 14 grandchildren! wow! thats alot…..thats really great news about the Pittfamily, thanks Sherry!
Thanks Stratoula for posting that link I didn’t post it because I don’t know how to post links.
Kati,I think I found it: http://www.jewelsandpinstripes.com/blog/tag/julie-neal/
In the text there is a link that you can click and read Julie’s letter.
So Julie has a son from Ethiopia!!!It must be great for Zahara to have a cousin that looks like her!!!
And Sherry, thanks for the news!!!What a wonderful family!
Yoco – could you please send the link to that article at jewelsandpinstripes! I tried to find it but couldn´t. I´m sure that there are many PIttwatchers who would like to read that letter from Julie Neal. Thanks in advance!
What a wonderful family. Jane must be very proud of her kids and of course grandkids. The more the tabloids put down Angie, the more she gets happier and fulfilled. Indeed, Angie and Brad found each other’s soulmate. The Pitt famly are becoming humanitarians like Angie.
I believe Julie has 5 kids including the son from Ethiopia that’s why Doug joked about her and Brad adding to the # of grandkids. There is a letter from Julie at jewelsandpinstripes.com where she mentions her adopted son.
I thought Doug only had 3 kids thats what he said in an interview with USA-Today .
Thanks E & Sharis! That’s a wonderful video clip. I really enjoyed Doug’s tribute to his mother. Very sweet. I love the way the Pitt kids honored their parents by contributing to important institutions near their hometown. It’s a beautiful tribute to Jane & Bill.
Thanks Sherry for the thread!
The community must be so thankfull to the Family, and Jane must feel so proud of her kids and grandkids. I hope they continue the good work.
