Setting a particular period for a Disney princess movie is a bit of a dangerous precedent, given that they almost have to exist in that imaginary time when royalty was basically a dime a dozen and didn't seem to rule over any particular place. Also, there were mermaids. I don't personally think it's a big deal what race the princess is, but I'm sure Disney will put their heart and soul into it, and it'll be very enjoyable.
