Nicole Richie and Joel Madden have started the Richie Madden Children’s Foundation for underprivileged mothers and their babies.
The press release says:
“Nicole would like to invite friends, family and fans across America to participate in the moms-in-need program and highly publicized baby shower. The Richie Madden Children’s Foundation will create and promote an online registry to inspire the purchases of items for moms and their families in need. Anyone in the country will be able buy from the registry on her behalf for the clinic. The registry link will live on the Richie Madden Children’s Foundation website for at least six months and will be updated regularly based on the needs of the LA Free Clinic and other participating clinics.”
Nicole’s baby shower on Sunday is completely dedicated to supporting this cause. What a great thing for Nicole and Joel to do!

I think they are doing an awesome thing here, since they are fortunate enough to not be in need of lots of gifts, I am thrilled that they decided to host a baby shower where their friends can donate to the charity. Way to go!
I was in hope that when Nicole set up her foundation that she would not limit it to strictly CA but would be willing to help out single Moms anywhere in the US. My daughter is pregnant by her long time boyfriend. Who has been trashing her all over our community and stating he is not the father. Now my daughter is forced to raise this child on her own. Unfortunately my financial situation does not allow me to help her alot, but she will be living at home and her father and I are supporting her through this pregnancy. Between her limited income and mine we are going to have a difficult time purchasing necessary items for this baby. I know there are others on the East coast like us. That is why I am a little disappointed that Nicole is only donating items to the LA Free Clinic. Although I do wish her the best with her child and her future husband.
I’m sorry Dona, maybe if the foundation does well, they’ll branch it out to other states, my sister is going through the same thing.
Once they are able to get this going the way the want, I’m sure they will branch out.
This is such apositive step in the right direction!
Babies are blessings.
I think it is a blessing if they can just help one family in need. Everyone has problems, but we all need to take steps to solve them. If you are living in another state, then get inspired by Nicole and Joel and start your own charity. God has given all of us a voice and faith and with those we can go a long way!
hey nicole im so glad ur almost having ur baby i had my baby gurl 5moths ago and shes the best thing thats happend to me and ur baby will be to u wish you the best mirna
I think what they are doing is a wonderful thing. Myself and many others around the country are in need, it’s just to bad that there are not more people in the world like Nicole and Joel. Although alot of more fortunate each have their own cause, there are many who don’t. I am 23 with a 2 yr old and I am 9 months pregnant, so I am still young enough to do something with my life, and hopefully one day I will be in a position to help others, it probably won’t be on a level such as Nicole and Joel, but if all others did just a little to help other people this world would be a much better place.
I run a non profit in Eugene Oregon called Doulas Supporting Teens. http://www.doulassupportingteens.org We are a group of trained and experienced labor support professionals working with pregnant and parenting teens. We are a grassroots organization that was started in my living room and now 4 years later we are able to serve around 50 teen mamas a year. There are many organizations like ours, maybe even in your state. If you are in need, find a local group of Doulas and they generally are well connected in helping mamas in need.
