As promised, here’s Thursday’s edition of the Sanjaya Report.
Madonna, J.Lo and Sanjaya – What do they have in common?

Not one of them is a great singer. Seriously. After Jennifer Lopez’s warbling last night, I have to wonder why they had her as a guest coach at all. I mean, there’s plenty to learn from her – singing is not one of them. These two very successful women are proof that singing does not always matter as long as you know how to use the media to your advantage.
The second thing that they have in common is that they cleverly disguise their shortcomings by diverting attention elsewhere. Madonna is one of the smartest business women ever born. Whether it’s a scandal, a girl-on-girl kiss or a foreign adoption, she stays in the news. J.Lo is known for her booty, red carpet glamour and her very exciting love life. Neither of these women are known as incredible vocalists. Could Sanjaya be following their lead? Even Randy said that Sanjaya is one of the smartest contestants he’s ever seen – Kelly Pickler’s dumb blonde act worked for her, why can’t it work for him?
Ryan Seacrest’s Street Interviews

Last night, Ryan stopped people to ask which contestant they most liked on American Idol this season. If you believe the hype about Vote for the Worst and Howard Stern swaying the vote, common sense would say that the average person walking down the street would hate Sanjaya as much as his many critics. Incredibly, many of the respondents actually said that Sanjaya was their favorite. It is possible that all the buzz has influenced them or that they do not actually watch the show and said the only name they knew. It is also possible that people like him and he does have a legitimate following.
Sisterly Love

Not only is Sanjaya popular on search engines but his sister Shyamali isn’t doing too badly herself – especially when you consider the fact that she is no longer even on the show. I have to admit that I almost forgot about her. Yet, searches for the young woman who reportedly works at Hooters have jumped 211% in the past week alone. Maybe they should consider doing a “Donnie and Marie” type show after Idol…
Could He Win?
As neutral as I have tried to be on the matter, I don’t know how I would feel about Sanjaya winning the title. Still, his ability to either survive or remain out of the bottom three has me wondering…could he win this? American Idol’s music producer, Ricky Minor, seems to think so. When asked about Sanjaya’s chances Minor said the following: “I think he could win the show. People are pulling for him. … I can tell you he can sing… This isn’t a singing competition alone. … He’s a handsome guy, and is really likable. People are pulling for him.”
I’m speechless and, as scary as it sounds, I almost see the logic of that statement. I still want my favorite to win (and, no, I’m not telling who it is) but I am not in charge of the voting – America is. I guess we’ll have to wait and see what happens.

Thank god somebody else can see what is happening to the music industry.Madonna, jennifer ,Britany and the list could go on, and on. Is the reason there are no good singer adutioning for the American Idol. Why would a srious singer try to compete with possers. I mean whats the point. American has lost its edge n the music scene. They are so taken by visions instead of substitions that we have lost our ability to influenece even a new dog album.

This season is proving that you do not need talent you just need fans. And b/c of this you are exactly right the mainstream for the most part sucks. It can all be traced back to what is marketable. Sanjaya in comparison to the other contestants is far more marketable thus he is still in it. And that is why i am waiting to hear from Conan.
Seriously, Sweatband man! By the way, I liked your site and I voted. Good luck! I love Conan!
Thanks a-lot.
Sanjaya will go far because he also knows how to entertain people. You have to admit those even those who didn;t like him tuned in each week to see what he was going to be wearing or how he wore his hair.Oh,yes, this sweet boy will go very, very far !!!
