This weekend being Father’s Day in the states, I thought it would be fun to shine a spotlight on some of the best (and decidedly worst) dads in Harry Potter. Here we go!
Worst Dads in Harry Potter
1) Orion Black: Dad of Sirius Black. Disowned Sirius when he ran away and along with Mum erased his name from the family tree. Nice guy!
2) Barty Crouch, Sr: Dad of Barty Crouch Jr. He makes some very bad decisions, such as sending Sirius Black to Azkaban. Killed by his own son.
3) Vernon Dursley: Dad of awful Dudley, uncle to Harry. Locks Harry in a closet for years, treats him like dung, horrible disciplinarian, etc.
4) Marvolo Gaunt: Dad to Merope and Morfin. This guy seriously creeped me out; he is also the grandfather of Voldemort. Great family tree, eh?
5) Lucius Malfoy: Dad to Draco. This guy is just awful – condescending, snobbish, and cowardly. Plus, he’s a Death Eater.
Best Dads in Harry Potter
1) Amos Diggory: Father of Cedric Diggory, who was killed in the Triwizard Tournament by Wormtail. I still can hardly watch that scene when Amos first finds out his son has been killed – very powerful.
2) Frank Longbottom: Dad to Neville Longbottom. Along with his wife Alice, he was known as one of the greatest Aurors ever. Tortured to madness by a group of Death Eaters and now spends his days in St. Mungo’s. I still hold out hope that they will come back to the land of the living.
3) Remus Lupin: Dad to Teddy, wife to Tonks. Killed in the battle for Hogwarts in Deathly Hallows.
4) James Potter: Dad to Harry, killed by Voldemort. While we only see James as a ghost, we know that he would have been a great dad.
5 Ted Tonks: Dad to Nymphadora Tonks. Sheltered members of the Order of the Phoenix, and Tonks always spoke very affectionately of him.
6) Arthur Weasley: I would say that Arthur is hands down the best dad in Harry Potter. Affectionate, loyal, loving, brave – I want him for my dad!
Did I miss anyone? Who do you think is the best (or worst) dad in Harry Potter?

i <3 all the bottom dads!!!! i agree about amos diggory- every time i watch it, i almost cry :’(
too bad 1/2 of the good dads die by the end of HP7 and one dad (frank) is not really alive

this is still hard to register in my mind, but harry and ron are dads too. i dont know about you, but i still think of them like 16 or 17 years old, not late 30s or w/e. and they are great dads, like what harry said to albus severus(i need to read DH again. ive only read it once )

wow, tay, that never even occurred to me… i always just think of them as my age (or very close to it). i agree that it’s hard to think of them as being dads cause we’ve read thousands of pages of them being teenagers

Amos Diggory was very UNLIKEABLE and a puffed up jerk in the book. Another movie “change” that took away from the story!
yeah, agree with you there kevin. in the books, amos kept rubing it in the cedric beat harry in quidditch, only b/c of the demontors. “Still, one wizard falls off his broom, the other stays on. it doesnt take a genus to tell whos the better flyer”

Umm…… You know I’m not really sure if Remus was one of the best dads. He’s a great person but it took Harry screaming in his face that James wouldn’t want his best friend leaving his own son to go on an adventure for Remus to realize that it doesn’t matter if it might be a werewolf or that it doesn’t matter that Tonks is safe, he’s the dad and he’s got to act like one. Sorry lol but I gotta agree Sirius had a horrible dad! His mum was worse though… Man that protrait would annoy me!
think that Haryshould be under th best dads!
