The Wrens at Bowery Ballroom

Last Friday, of the many shows going on, I went to the KEXP Benefit at Bowery Ballroom. I missed We Were Promised Jetpacks and caught the tail end of Titus Andronicus, but saw the whole set of the elusive Wrens. They announced it was their first show in NYC in two years and made jokes about their new album (which they have been working on for about 5 years now). They looked old, got a little out of breath after some fast numbers, but were still excellent. They played a lot of songs off of Meadlowlands, which made me and the crowd happy and we even got to hear a few new songs. So, in short, these guys have been around a long time but they still know how to play great music. Phew!
