The fourth season of “Heroes” is still months away, but NBC is already at work to keep us viewers in the loop of things to come. In fact, I finally signed up for “Heroes All Access” after reading about Tim Kring’s newsletter sent out to exclusive members where the creator spoiled details about the next volume “Redemption”!
So, according to Kring, “Redemption” is all about the characters returning to a normal life, after finally, getting rid of Sylar (or so they thought!). Some will attempt to go back to some normalcy, while others will embrace exposing their powers to the world.
Take Claire Bennet. She’ll be starting college in Washington DC so that’s some semblance, right? Well, Kring says not so, because the Bennet parents are splitting up! And then there’s a mysterious suicide on campus that puts Claire “in the crossfire”.
And then, Matt Parkman has his family now. A new baby, and maybe reconciling with Janice… except Matt is living with the guilt of what he did to Sylar, and that’s no way to start fresh.
And then, of course, Nathan Petrelli is trying to live his old life, except he’s not really Nathan! I wonder how Sylar breaks free of Matt’s mind power. Oooh, and can you imagine what Sylar will do to Matt once he finds out the truth? Now that should be early in the season, and let all hell break loose!
Oh, and golden-hearted Peter Petrelli embraces his heroism and saves lives! Wooohooo! Finally someone is able to use their powers for good. But I bet nothing that good lasts. Who is this “powerful woman” that gets attached to Peter? Can we please give this guy a chance at love?
Now wait.. what is that I read about a new Company? Headed by Noah Bennet with Tracy Strauss and Angela Petrelli, what a trifecta! There’s bound to be power-struggles at every turn. So is this a good company now, just “connecting with others who have powers”? It’s like the ISIS Foundation for meter-freaks from Smallville (ooops, sorry for the cross-over).
And there is another yet again covert organization that poses threat in a “potentially deadly way”. Sigh. Sometimes, I really just want the Heroes to start to have normal lives, and help save lives, man!
So are excited about the coming season?

i think the idea of tim bringing back our heroes to their normal lives is ok because season one was a major hit and somehow the story got lost in the way, maybe because the story in season 2 was just too short compaired to the first season or its characters and their story wasnt as good as season one. And again in season three there’s this on/off story about sylar, once he’s the good guy once he’s the bad guy, suddenly he’s peters brother then he’s not. I mean if they are going to creat a villain they should just creat one and not one that keeps changing his mind about ripping peoples head open. I also think that there should be a new villain cause sylar is just getting boring. I personly thought that the idea of sylar and peter being brothers was good even if it ment they were agains each other but again tim changed the story making it too confusing, yes the show is about keeping us guessing and supprises but if it all leads us back to the start, whats the point! So please for god sakes bring back classic heroes!
My personal opinion as a writer and dedicated heroes-fan is that heroes should return to its roots. Not only should they return to somewhat normal lives, but I say focus on 5 lovable heroes/villains, develop them closer without always rushing into major schemes. I would like to see Claire Bennet manage without her parents and find love once and for all. I would like to see Peter Petrelli finally do something fulfilling, and stick to a power that suits him! I would also like to see Matt Parkman return to being a cop, because that is who he is.
And here’s a twist, what if our heroes could solve a normal problem for once, how about terrorism, organized crime, a bank robbery? I think the show could benefit from being a bit more down to earth, there is no stopping the terrorist from being a guy like Sylar you know, maybe he is not only armed with conviction but the power to persuade.
Keep in mind, these are all my personal opinions on how to ‘improve’ the show, I already love it as it is. Tim Kring, call me up and we’ll have a chat, maybe we could cook something up.
Grace,
Yeah, there is a downside to building them up too much. The more they rise, the greater the fall so to speak. When they all reach the pinnacle of what they are capable off, the story kind of mellows out…there is nothing to wow us anymore.
I couldn’t agree with you more that they should be the modern superheroes ‘we need’ as you so beautifully stated. The word hero is almost worn out nowadays. However, those everyday heroes armed with powers, could be just that…heroes.
Can’t help to think what the world would be like with Obama flying around, brightening our day. Try wrap your head around that one Tim Kring
Jesper,
that’s also what I’ve been thinking- get the HEROES to do some “normal heroism” you know! they’re not like the Justice League or Avengers or even X-men but they can be the modern superheroes this world needs right?
