Just in time for the 4th of July, Toby Keith has released a new single titled The American Ride.
The single is part of an upcoming album by Toby, though there’s no further information on that just yet.
In the video above, Toby talks about how the single was originally going to be released later in the summer, around August or September, but after playing it for some DJs in Florida he was told he needed to get it on the radio. I haven’t heard it yet but it has supposedly hit the airwaves today!
The song (from what I can hear!) talks about American pop culture (or “The American Ride”), from crazy lawsuits to people who get record deals though they “can’t even sing a note.”
Have you heard it played yet? What do you think?

I love it. Can’t wait to hear it in concert. It’s a great rowdy, fun song, gets the crowd pumped and the more pumped the crowd is the more pumped Toby is. Thanks Toby, can’t wait for your new CD to come out.
This song is awesome!!! Nobody can sell it the way Toby does either…… I think its his next number one for sure!!! Rock on Toby…
I heard it yesterday for the first time. I didn’t know it was Toby, and just loved it. It’s a different “sound” for him. This will definitely shoot to the top. I wish that I could see him live this year, but just can’t afford it
Heard this in Tampa, West Palm, and Jacksonville. It is fabulous! Every word is true.
Wow.
I don’t like his version of it.
I love Dave Pahanish’s version of it when it was American Life. Dave is the writer of the song. Can’t believe Toby would change the name.
Great song regardless.
WELL…..ITS A GREAT SONG. THANK YOU FRO WRITING DAVE PAHANISH! ALSO THANK YOU FOR LETTING STORMY AND I (DONNY THOMAS) TO PLAY IT FIRST!
Heard this song in concert on June 26, 2009 in Tampa, Florida! This song kicks ass and is sure to be a #1 Hit for Toby!!!
I heard this song on the radio the other day and I LOVE it! It’s one of the best from Toby in quite some time. I wish there was someway I could download it!
Actually this song is written by Joe West and Dave Pahanish. Those guys wrote Do You Believe Me Now for Jimmy Wayne too! Does anyone know anything else that they’ve written? I love it! Toby’s version is amazing in my humble opinion! No disrespect to Dave but this song was just made for Toby!
“I will” another one sung by Jimmy Wayne. “Completely Yours” sung by Emely West. Wow! blow me away type song!!! just gotta hear it for yourself to know what I mean.
I absolutely love this song! I call and request it all the time. Does anyone know when it will be released on itunes?
Remember Bruce Springstein’s “Born in the USA”? People LOVED IT and then realized it was a huge dis on being born in the USA. This song “feels” angry to me. There are a lot of things to be embarrassed about because of the American Life. I’m use to TK singing about the pride of being American. Just sayin’.
Hi Robin! I don’t get the impression that he’s dissing the US or embarrassed by it, rather that he’s amused by everything that makes up life in the US, if that makes sense.
Robin, I don’t agree either. He’s talking about things happening in the USA, how is that dissing the USA? The coffee, some woman burned herself when she spilled it and got a million dollars, shows how greedy people are. I don’t hear anything angry about this at all. Love watching him sing it too, love his POWER SQUATS. Like the writers said, NO one could sing this but Toby.
Look Toby Keith himself is just awesome, and so is any song he does. Nothing against anyone else, but you got to give him credit where credit is due. He’s got a gift, God gave him that.
Love it!! Of course anything Toby sings is awesome. Can’t wait to hear it at his concert!!
I very much disliked this song. “Both ends of the ozone burnin.
Funny how the world keeps turnin.” WTH? Obviously the ozone is depleting and there is climate change. Hence the increase in crazy weather and skin cancer. Way to just encourage gluttonous consumption of fossil fuels without regard to the next generation!
The song has a great rhythm and is very Toby Keith. He is a hard core American man and you dont get any better. Love the song but some of the words are a little confusing could use a little help…what is lithamus, americas town?
Thank you, Robin. I thought I was alone here. I agree with you, and I hate this song. I have never listened to a song and become truely angry because of it. But today I did. I never expected this from a country singer, let alone from Toby Keith, but this song is basically telling everyone how terrible and messed up America is. Yes, there are problems, and yes they need to be recgonized, but these problems are found all over the world. There’s no need to blame America for it. The world already seems to hate our country, so we don’t need fellow American citizens trashing it, too. Often I feel like I’m the only one, but I love our country and what it stands for. The real problem with America is how divided it is, and a song like this doesn’t help. If you want a real song listen to “The Eagle Flies” by
Aaron Tippin. We need to build pride back into our country, and things like this don’t help.
It is just a song and if someone is willing to let another make up their mind for them then how can their opinion be considered valuable? Though some perspectives consider this song an insult, in the end, it is just words that only have as much power as the listener gives them. Opinions will always be there but at the end of the day the only thoughts that truly matter are your own. My own philosophy says that as long as I can look at the eyes in the mirror then I’m following my path as I decide the choices given to me. I find this song interesting since it seems to be a humorous take on America ,but I don’t see experts supporting it. Just a song to be enjoyed for the sake of fun.
Way to keep it real, Toby! My opinion is…if you don’t like the song, then change the channel.
this song is true youve got jessica simpsom singing country what the hell a ladie spills coffee and sues mc d because it didnt say hot on the cup a normal american drink there coffee hot this song just says the truth about america
A favorite question of mine. What is truth? If a little girl was kidnapped and was raised with the belief the kidnapper was her father then what? He raised her like a father but ultimately stole her away. So is the truth a lie or the lie a truth? Sorry for turning this down a slightly different path, but I’d like people to see that reality can easily be decided by perspective among other things.
This is another great song by Toby. It was made for him. If you can’t see the humor in it, then you don’t have a sense of humor! The things he says are funny as well as true – like a beauty queen gaining five pounds and losing her crown, and getting plastic surgery to take care of it. “Plasma getting bigger, Jesus getting smaller” is a great line, and more truth. The more materialistic we get, with bigger (plasma) TV’s for example, the more we lose sight of what really matters. This song is a great tongue-in-cheek reflection on what American’s have become!
Your right…. America is good….. But I dont think its fair to make joke of people with webbed feet.
toby keith is just awesome by far the best country act ive ever seen hes what real america is all about though he didnt write american ride hes the only one who can sing it great song
Well I love Toby and his new hit; This song says a lot of things about our country that people dont want to hear about. The politicans of today are cheats and liars among other things and the people of the USA have lost their control and say of what we really need. So if Toby can say it for us ( God Love Him ) let him Fan Donna
Why are people saying he shouldn’t be saying these things about America? After 9/11 he and a lot of other musicians wrote about how they felt, patriotism, and how they thought America should respond (Darryl Worley and Alan Jackson are two others who come to mind). These people are musicians. Their method of communication is through their songs, and they do indeed reflect the sentiment of large portions of the country. Every musician does this. For example, why is it not okay for Toby to call attention to what America has become, but it’s alright for rap/hip hop artists to degrade women in their lyrics and videos? If people are offended by Toby’s (or Dave’s) take on some aspects of American society, then perhaps they should evaluate their moral condition. Unfortunately, though, people who are engaged in less than moral activities tend to not like having the light shined on them. It brings accountability.
Look Robbin and Cristine and who ever, if you are embarassed about the song, or if anyone else is, just change the way we or you are, oh well he is just telling the truth but if the truth hurts we need to change it, on the other hand i love this song, its my favorite, and i think he done a great job, hell, maybe people will change BUT YOU dont need to be so sensitive nor do other people, thats just showing weakness in my opinion.
Like Robin and Christine i was a little offended when I first heard this song, I’ve always like toby keith and i still think its a pretty upbeat fun song but when it comes down to the lyrics i have to admit i’m a little confused.is he being sarcastic and kind of mocking how people seem to be able to get away with just about anything (the MickD’s lawsuit, and getting a record deal because you “look good” rather than having talent)and how people refuse to change their ways. or is he saying, “yea this is what we do get and we aren’t going to change” the latter seems more Toby’s style, but when i read the lyrics online i’m starting to think maybe its supposed to be sarcastic in a way. If it isnt though I’m disapointed in him. that’s exactly the reason a lot of the world hates americans
I have never really liked TK – but I found the song/video interesting. Seems as though TK doesn’t like what he is singing about either, but would like Americans to take a long hard look at themselves to realize how absurd we are being these days and this is the most effective way for him to do this. Even though I am no fan of TK’s I like the song and the beat regardless.
It’s, “Poor little infamous America’s down…” not lithamus!
Come on people….Even the biggest of idiots has to realize that Toby Keith is as much of a hard core, red blooded, AMERICAN man as they come. Obviously, some bumbling morons haven’t got the horsepower between their ears to realize that the song is a sarcastic slam on the stupid liberalist, dogmatic, ideologies of radical environmentalism as well as the lazyness of those who resort to lawsuits rather than taking responsibility of learning from the mistakes of thier own ignorant and foolish ways. They also fail to realize that the song calls out the innate foolishness of thinking one can use their fame/money/political or social status to become a professional musician or any other craftsman which actually requires TALENT (something one must actually work at to develop). The song BY NO MEANS is a slam on America or its culture/way of life, rather its is an in-your-face, slightly pissed-off, tyrade against the assualt on the true American way of life which is…..”success earned through honest and hard work”. This assault genrally takes the form of jackasses trying to skip out on the “earned”, “honest” and “hard” portions of the previous statement. I have to agree with one fact, however; only Toby Keith has the brash moxy to pull this song off in such an excellent fashion, to which I proudly reply “YOU GO WITH IT, TK!!!!”. I’m off the soap box now; it’ll be very interesting and quite entertaining to read your responses…………Later!!!!!!
Thank you HardCoreAmerican! Its a little scary to think how some of you people could be so insulted by the lyrics of this song… perhaps you see yourselves being described a bit too well.
This song is obviously a shot at liberals, liberal media, and pop culture. Plain as day, he is taking a great shot at those dopes.
Go Toby.
You all do know that Toby Kieth is a registered Democrat. It’s funny how you think it’s a mockery of liberal views. Anyway-I personally think it mocks both sides quite well especially being that in the video Bush is being rode by his father and Obama is being carried off. I think the ozone burning isn’t so much a mockery of enviromentalism but of the fact that its buring on both sides and we just keep going on with our lives like nothing is happening. I really like the song and the video. I agree that it’s not a slam on America however it is a slam on many aspects of the culture of Americans today.
Anyone who can write the words to Courtesy of the Red White and Blue is not dissing America. As said above by hardcoreamerican, it’s more of a hit on the libs. These lyrics that he chose to sing, even though not written by him, are factual as how things are actually happening in this country.
Complete Sattire from Toby and I think it is awesome. It’s about time someone brought to light what the heck is wrong with things.
Winter gettin cooler Summer Gettin Warmer,
‘Ozone Burnin funny how the world keeps turnin’
This says it all, STOP, realize America and quit whining because the if the shoe don’t fit the fits not gonna hit the shan. Basically he’s talking about how retarded the average American has gotten and how we need to realize we are in the greatest country on earth and to change the nation would be to change our greatness.
Well said Hardcoreamerican!!!!!
