Tom and Katie - Committed to Keeping the Family Together

tomkat-mtv-movie-awards-02_nc.jpg

Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes did just recently celebrate moving into their new Beverly Hills mansion, but right now their sites are set on New York. As we all know, Katie is set to make her Broadway debut in “All My Sons“, which hits the stage in October and will run for 16 weeks. Katie has already been in New York a few times for meetings and rehearsals.

The show’s producer, Eric Falkenstein, has confirmed that the couple will move to New York together and are looking for a Manhattan apartment.

Katie and Tom are committed to keeping the family together, so they have to get an apartment here in New York,” says Falkenstein.

Falkenstein has also voiced his support of Katie’s role in the play.

When she signed on, she came here to a bare rehearsal room for a read- through. She didn’t ask for anything. She was just sweet and deferential. At the first table-read, Holmes took notes… asked questions… [she] loves being around theater people. Katie’s not a celebrity type. She’s done brilliant work in films like Pieces of April and The Ice Storm.

I have not heard when exactly Tom and Katie will be moving to New York, but I imagine it’s soon!

Thank you Julie! And I hope you’ve a nice vacation! :D

16 weeks is long but I’m so excited for Katie. I’m sure TC will be going back and forth between LA and NY because he is still filming for Valkyrie and running UA.

  2. Tyler

Sounds like a good plan. Julie, does the word “family” here include Bella and Connor, or just the new family?

  3. concerned mom

Yes, Tia, I saw where he was filming on Valkyrie again or about to.. One write up said it was well done..I am not in the crowd that thinks it will do great, but finishing it was a surprise to me–so I will ‘wait and see’. LOL

  4. Hana

Sounds like Katie made a big impression.
I’m glad they’re keeping the family together.

I read that about Valkyrie too. Peter Bart from variety said several people he trusted have seen it and according to them, it’s a superb thriller. I can’t wait to see it.

I will be watching that movie no matter what they say, I just got to see what Tom Cruise and the director of X Men created! With those two talents, what could be ? Oh and I am just dieing to see Tropic Thunder too! What got me hooked is knowing that Tom Cruise is gonna be in it dressed up in a fat suit! I cannot wait to see that!

I will see Valkryie b/c I have always been interested in the historical piece of the Nazi reign. As far as the director/producer saying that Katie came “into a bare rehearsal room” really means nada to me….they are ALL bare….as a voice artist and a stage performer myself I have been in many a read-thru/rehearsal room and they are always empty….so what?? The fact that she did not ask for any amenities in the room really doesn’t make me think that she is down to earth!! I love Katie and think she is beautiful but really do not need to hear that she is like “all of us” and not like a “celebrity” just b/c she was “ok” with sitting in a bare rehearsal room. I would imagine that there are more definitive ways in which one could discern whether or not she is like all the other actresses/actors she will sharing the stage with. Katie has reached “celebrity” status now via her conjoining with TC……no shame in that. I just do not like that producers weak attempt in classifying her as an evryday Jane just b/c she makes no demands on the room accomodations.

    Jenna,
He’s on a PR campaign. He believes her newfound celebrity status is enough to sell tickets and he may be right because people will be curious.

Keeping family together is what families do and that is VERY important.
I have to wonder if the “family” includes ALL of his children, since they were not included in the Germany trip.

  10. Anne

I am yet to hear any one who has met Katie in person who has not said she is nice and sweet with no airs. I am curious too to know whether Bella and Connor will be moving with them too. I hope so otherwise they have to commute all the time to see them. Tom can never ignore any of his kids. The differences are seen by the public. Not him.

I am hoping to see this in NYC…I will have to see if my schedule permits!

  12. LALA

I do believe TOMKAT will be able to manage their happy family and their careers. Wish them all the best and good luck!

  13. PuckHappy

Does anyone know if Katie is back in NYC practicing? Does anyone know her schedule?

As an actress in both theatre and film, the two worlds are quite different, and a read through/rehearsals in a bare rehearsal hall is standard. Actors are paid equity wages, and theatre actors are there for the craft, not to make millions of dollars. It’s no big deal that Katie Holmes didn’t make demands. She knows that this experience will be very different (and perhaps much harder) than film work, especially since her only theatre experience is in high school. Good for her for making this leap! It shows that she’s truly committed to growing as an actress, not just a star!

  15. PuckHappy

Very interesting insight, Karen. And I like the what you said about Katie:
“It shows that she’s truly committed to growing as an actress, not just a star!”

She is not JUST a star, she wants to be an actress. That is the Katie that many of us knew before tt came into her life!!

  16. LALA

Katie is a beautiful young star, a wife a mother and soon shes going to be a successful actress. Katie Holmes is so blessed!!!
