The funny thing is, I have seen Top Gun twice, on TV, but I never saw the ending. i think it was because I checked the movie out of the library and I had to return it, and I had been so busy that I did not get to see it to the end. The movie I really want to get is Lions for Lambs this coming month. I already saw it at the moviei theatre, but I wanna see the extras in the DVD, plus, I loved it, and feel the need to watch it again.

I meant, I’ve seen it once on TV and the other time on a DVD I checked out from the library, but both times, I did not get to watch it to the end.

I love top gun too. Heck I love most Tom Cruise movies. But Top gun is up there. Thanks Julie, this just me me nostalgic. I do find Tom Cruise very sexy and sweet.

  4. PuckHappy

This was not ever one of my fav movies. I don’t like that the cute guy with a family was killed.
    But that is just me.

I should add that a guy i knew about a year ago worked on this set with tc and he said that tc was very proper with everyone at all times. Very business minded.

I went to the Beckham groupie site for the first time today, and not one single comment on that page. I guess the Beckhams really aren’t that popular in the US. And Pitt watch is gross, but the fans are really nice, and don’t leave negative comments. Most that I saw, didn’t do a lot of comparing of Suri and Shiloih. Some of them fans mentioned that they love Brangelina because they are so benevolent and help other people.

Let’s see, I was in junior high when this movie came out. Not much on the movie, but at that time, I thought the soundtrack was cool. Go Kenny Loggins with your bad self!!

  8. Sydney

Oh boy, taking us back to 1986 I see. Yawn then when the flick came out and more yawns today. Liked some of his other work more, not including cocktail, another yawn.

  9. Zoe

Yawn;) Oh my….I just LOVE that movie.I have a question for the Topgun fanatics.

I have always wondered, Tom is 5′7″, how tall do you think the guy who plays their bald sargeant type is, the one who sent them to Topgun? (The scene where they are being yelled out in the office.) Do you think Tom is standing on a box?

And my husband would like to add, Kelly McGillis would never get the same role today, he still cant believe she got it then…he is saying mean things I will not type.

Yes, Tom Skeritt is 6 feet tall, at least 5 inches taller that Tom Cruise. I had the same thought when I watched Top Gun. They sure went to an awful lot of trouble to make it appear as though they were the same height. Tom Cruise truly must be the most insecure of all people.

  11. Tuna Subway

By today’s standards, Kelly is not pretty and probably would not be cast for a lead role as the love interest. Its funny how back then these people looked decent and attractive, but the way I see it today, you can’t look like that at all, and frizzy hair is not hot no more. As for T.C. he still has beautiful eyes and a good personality.

  12. zoe

My bad snowflake…the first scene where they get yelled at..when cougar drops out( do you think I like this movie:) the short bald man with the cigar who says I am sending you two characters to topgun…not tom skeritt…who I love by the way. Do you know now who I mean?

  13. Doug

Top Gun; yep, it was ‘86 alright. I remember that one because the girl I took seemed to be more infatuated with the guys in the movie than me!! Didn’t make that mistake again. No disrespect to Cruise though. Bad dating move on my part.

  14. No One Special

Back then Kelly McGillis was hot and so was her hair. That was 20 years ago and styles have changed.

Wasn’t it this movie that KH fell in love with cruise? I still can’t believe he sang “You Lost That Loving Feeling” to her on her wedding day. Sorry, but not a very romantic or the kind thing I want my husband to tell me on my wedding day. I would like to remember that we were in love that day, not losing it. Oh well, to each his own.

The movie was okay, but like most Hollywood movies, it was all part of the genre of adventure movies that were produced at the time. I remember seeing several movies that all had the Air Force theme in them in the late 1980’s.

THIS WAS MY FIRST “DATE MOVIE” WHEN I WAS 14 I AM NOW TURNING 37 (WIERD) BUT WILL ALWAYS HAVE THIS MEMORY THAT IS THE ONLY SPECIAL MEMORY OF MY FIRST DATE AS THE BOY ENDED UP TRASHING ME JUST BECAUSE I WAS A VIRGIN. ITS OKAY BECUASE AS I MATURED I WORKED OUT AND AM A VERY TALL IN SHAPE HAPPILY MARRIED WOMAN WHO UNFORTUNATELY AS LARGE AS MY WEDDING RING IS I STILL GET HIT ON ALL THE TIME. THATS OKAY I FLASH MY RING PROUDLY AND LET MEN KNOW I HAVE BEEN HAPPILY MARRIED FOR 14 YEARS. SO THAT IS IT I DO NOT HAVE A TOM CRUISE OBSESSION I ONLY HAVE A NICE MEMORY OF MY VERY FIRST DATE EVEN IF THE BOY WAS A JERK TOM AND THE LOVE STORY IN THE MOVIE WAS GREAT AND WILL FOREVER BE A WONDERFUL PART OF A POSITIVIE MEMORY FROM MY YOUTH!!!!
    THANKS TOM

Regarding: “They sure went to an awful lot of trouble to make it appear as though they were the same height. Tom Cruise truly must be the most insecure of all people.”

This has always been a common practice in film-making; when John Wayne (6 feet 4 inches) had to walk with shorter men on camera, they used to dig a shallow ditch for him to walk in, to bring everyone’s heads to a similar level, and make filming easier. Not necessarily an ego thing on Cruise’s part.

I really liked the film, though, and still do !

  17. ‘animal’

as a former naval pilot of this most awesome machine ,I can tell you although tom might very well be an astabolished “ACTOR”,he has neither the stamiina nor the “C”ability to fly this animal, been there-done that.

  18. ‘animal’

BTW,accidents happen ALL the time in the fleet, what the Navy will NEVER tell is that alot of time it’s due to pilot error, the “OOPS” factor, and last but not least something that was and is ALWAYS overlooked by someone somewhere.
I should know,I lost MY RIO after a bird strike and his ejection seat went lower than mine.Something like what ‘goose’ went through, except,we wasn’t in a flat spin,we were at about 525kts at 950 to 1,000ft.
So please, before you out here in la-la-land ask something like can an actor fly this $35-40 million fighter-jet,ask yourself this;are YOU UP TO DOING WHAT IT TAKES.
