Tom Cruise Interview on Barbara Walters's Special

Last night, December 4th, was the Tom Cruise interview on Barbara Walter’s special ‘Barbara Walters’s Presents The 10 Most Fascinating People of 2008′. As I mentioned before, Tom made that list and he was actually number 2, right before Barack Obama! The list I had before was wrong.

This was the most different Tom Cruise interview I have ever seen. He was so subdued, so quiet and calm. Not the Tom Cruise we are all used to seeing. He seemed so much older in this interview to me.

The last time Barbara Walters interviewed him was back in 2005 on the set of Mission Impossible 3. He took her on a fast ride and talked about his new love Katie Holmes. Barbara said that this time she met a much different Tom Cruise, weathered and wiser.

They talked about how the last couple of years have been very difficult for him with the press. She asked if things were changing and he said yes, definitely changing. Barbara said that for awhile it seemed like it was Tom Cruise against the world with his whole Matt Lauer interview, becoming the most outspoken Scientologist, losing a deal with Paramount and the Oprah couch jumping incident. Whew! Rough times for sure.

Barbara went on to ask him if there was anything he regretted and he laughed, asking her if she had a list. When she mentioned the couch jumping, he smiled and said “Well, there were some things I could have handled better”.

They went on to talk about his most risky movie ever, Valkyrie. I thought this was a great interview and we saw a side of Tom Cruise that is different. He mentioned that he will no longer talk about his religion. Probably a smart idea for any celebrity. He talked about Katie and being on Broadway and the fact that they will have more kids. Cool.
