Usually when a couple has been dating for a while and then decides to get married the woman will only change her last name if at all. In Hollywood though, it’s rare to see a celebrity change their name because it’s their brand. That’s how they’re recognized. Well, the all-powerful Tom Cruise has managed to make Katie Holmes change her first name and they aren’t even married yet. I bet once they do get married she’ll be Kate Cruise. That totally doesn’t roll off the tongue. Grrr. Katie Holmes has been a famous name for a really long time and that’s how she’s recognized. I think Kate Holmes just sounds dumb, but not as dumb as Kate Cruise. Oy. Poor Katie:
Fiance Tom Cruise seems to have been trying to push it for a while now but according to various sources about the place, Katie Holmes is set to officially change her name to Kate.
Tom has reportedly said: “Katie is a young girl’s name.Her name is Kate now she’s a child-bearing woman.”
It’s not been mentioned whether she’ll take Tom’s surname too, when they marry later this year. via fametastic
I think KATIE HOLMES should be allowed custody of her child, and she should be able tto make her own decisions, on her religion, name and her baby. After all SHE is A CHILD-BEARING WOMAN. She is the one who went thruough painful birth, Not tom. I think she should just take her baby and leave him. He is way to controling.
I bet Katie didn’t even have a say in their baby’s name! Tom is a major control freak! Why doesn’t he change his name to “Thomas”, befitting of a father?
I guess we the public understand why Nicole left him. He does seem very controlling now. I thought at first this was a publicity stunt, which it still could be, but it is going on for an awfully long time and it making him look more and more ridiculous.

Katie’s real name is Kate! So she’s not changing anything. Kate is her birth name and Katie was used as a stage name to probably make her more marketable to the teenage set during dawson’s creek. I think Kate Cruise sounds great personally. More power to her.

I think that Katie fell head over heels for the “Tom Cruise” that I personally grew up to hear everyone talking about. How “great” he looked and that he was this dreamy guy. What young girl would not have jumped at the chance to be with TOM CRUISE? Not too many. But then because of publicity and everything things went too far. She fell in love with the “Tom Cruise” that we all new from outside of the box. Now that she has his child, she is stuck. Affraid that Toms money might by his was into custody of their child and fears of a broken family. From what I can tell of Katie ahe is very family oriented so she is going to do what she can to try to make the relationship work. Not neccessarily realizing that she is changing who she is to satisfy who he wants her to be. I dont think that anyone should change who they are just to be with someone and I really think that someone who wants a person to make changes like their name or even the way the look is just trying to creat what it is they are looking for and not what they have right in front of them. Katie has been Katie. Why all of the sudden change because of a comment by Tom Cruise? And why change now? Why not before Cruise? As far as last names, thats a brides choice. Its not mandatory. Most women do it to satisfy their wants. Not their husbands. Some grooms have been known to change their names. Its personal choice. NOT CONTROL

Well I hate to come to any sort of defense of Tom’s (because I just can’t stand the way he controls Katie) but Katie was actually listed as “Kate Holmes” in her senior yearbook. However, those of us who know her (I used to work with her) know her as Katie, as does the rest of the world, and since it’s been ages since she’s even used Kate, why does HE insist that people called her Kate now? Sure, I get called Kate occasionally too, but it’s more of a nickname, now a name change. I stand by my Katieness, as should she! (and since she is a “child-bearing woman” now, maybe she oughta stop letting herself be controlled so much!!) Just waiting fo him to start up the whole Kate campaign again, and start correcting reporters who call her Katie Holmes, that would be a hoot to see the media frenzy that surrounds that!
Lindsay, her birth name is Kathleen (or perhaps Kathryn, but I think that’s her mom’s name, I always get confused which is which), not Kate – Kate’s a nickname, just like Katie.

first of all, it is up to every couple what they do with its life, even if it’s a matter of changing names or religions, they hasn’t been lucky because they’re famous, things like these use to happen everywhere and all the time, it is Ok to reflect our opinions, but in a nice way , mainly because we are talking about PEOPLE, how would we feel is someone tells this or that about our decisions in life? problably we’d get upset, so let’s just leave them in peace. if she decides to agree in changing her name, that’s up to her, maybe she has a good reason for doing it. Now, and going a little against with what I’m asking for, if any woman says to me that she’s going to agree in leaving the custody of her kids, well, this I consider is not right, but it’s not my problem anyway, on the other hand, if we really want to be on her side, saying that Tom controls her is not the way, this is going to get her ashamed, above all.
I wish her all the happiness she surely deserves, and health for her daughter Suri, I simpathize more with her than with Tom, but I think he should have many good values, otherwise Katie wouldn’t got married to him, I don’t believe in that story that she got married with Tom, just because he was her dreamed man or whatever, she’s also famous, she’s also beautiful and she surely had many pretenders and has nowadays.

This is so retarded. Most everybody knows that this short piss ant is really named Thomas Cruise Mapother IV, and Kate is the original name of the name Katie. She could use a “Y” if she wanted to, but she doesn’t. That doesn’t matter in the least little bit. I use a “Y” or just the first three letters, or I use other versions of my name. I even have knick names. Who cares?!? Everybody needs to get a grip on reality, and they should get a JOB. I am disabled from dying in a bloody car wreck, and it is darn near impossible to get a job as a cripple. I even volunteer, but I don’t ask somebody to change their name. That is just stupid.
