Hey everyone! I’m filling in for Julie while she is moving (I’m actually moving as well so it’s a bit of a catastrophe) so I will let her talk about the Tom Cruise on Oprah interview details but I’m putting the videos up so that you guys can start commenting.
I know this is an explosive topic so I ask you to please keep your comments friendly and free of attacks of each other and Tom Cruise and his family.

Personally, I hope nothing happens to him, Katie, or his kids. That would be tragic for all involved!!
i would never intrude on a site that is only for fans, so if lauren sticks to the new tom cruse site, she can be safe from people like me, and i bet her blood pressure level will be healthier too. have fun lauren. will miss you. LOL.

I will Jarjoge I will. Actually the short of it is that,there is this philosophy I have. If I like some one, I try to concetrate on the good that they do. Many icons are vilified like someone pointed out but when you stop and think, these icons usually do more good than so called heros. I read a lot of history and am a politician at heart. I don’t believe in inflexible politics. There are good things in the left and in the right, I try to maximise both. Tom Cruise is a good honest person. For that I will never attack him for his beliefs. Whatever his cult does, he is not the founder and he does not personally onchestrate them. Infact the Tom Cruise am a fan of would never condone what scientology allegedly does. His heart is in the right place and to me that is what matters.
On the other hand, I have had the misfortune of dealing with former scientologists, I have never met a nice one. Infact that is the part that scares me about that whole cult, that it can produce such sick people. Their obsession is scary and their tactics are not about to win me over any time soon.
I don’t believe in an eye for an eye. Harrassing and bullying Tom Cruise because his religion/ cult does that to former members is ridiculous and sick and I don’t think it will accomplish anything, it hasn’t so far.
P.S Notice that there posts I have ignored. It was deliberate and not an oversight. (very calm tone)

I don’t see how it’s possible to conclude that Cruise is in any way exploiting his daughter Suri…………He and Katie waited months to show a picture of Suri as a baby and were blasted for it. The only time we see that child is when she is with them as they travel with her.
I have yet to watch today’s Oprah interview but I heard that two pics of Suri’s birthday was shown and Tom said Suri’s talking a lot.
Tom and Katie have yet to include Suri, Bella or Conor in any kind of sit down interview and I can’t see them ever doing that. The children were not even present in the Telluride home interview with Oprah.
The exploitation is with the media who have cover stories and articles on a two year old and the paps who run over each other to score the best pic.

You just said it all, except you forget that Tom Cruise is a spokesperson for that cult. He either is not so bright, or he knows what goes on. Okay, maybe he’s not so bright. I’ll buy that. But, he must read things just as you do, or doesn’t he read? Does that make him a not so bright that doesn’t read? Okay, it’s a stretch, but I’m naive enough to give that some thought.
No, tt did NOT say suri was talking a lot. He said she says “dada cruise”.

just read your post earlier today where i was confused how you could like both castro and crusie, who represent such extremes. i was just asking a question. really was being curious, not insulting. sorry about that. i usually stay out of political discussions. now you know why.

okay, i buy how someone might think tom’s heart’s really in the right place…. hmmmm…. actually i think that’s a bit of a stretch for me. while he CAN act, i see him as someone with an inflated ego and i question the way he handled the breakup with nicole…. it’s not true that anyone who ever knew tom only says nice things about him. i understand that it’s important we don’t make him out to be a scapegoat for the COS; however, isn’t tom’s position in the org very high that he yields a high influence in the church? in that sense, shouldn’t he be held accountable?

I was very worried about the Oprah show but it exceeded my expectation. I didn’t even think Oprah will ask some of the questions she did and the part he talks about his baby being deformed, that part for me was very sad to watch and there was nothing fluff about that interview.
As a fan, if there was anything I was disappointed in or didn’t agree with Tom was with what he said about Brooke Shields and I was happy to see him acknowledging his mistakes and apologies for them, which only makes him a human. He seems to be very sorry and has learned from his mistakes and I think its time some of you moved from the past and gave the man a break.
I don’t think he should be held accountable Jajorge he is one person and he has not even siad anything about his beliefs in a long time. Even if he is held accountable, I don’t think harrassing him and his family, bullying him, calling his child a rosemary baby etc scores any points for those trying to fight his religion. In any case his fall will not remove the church and for those who believe it will, then you are even more naive than I thought.
Donner: Katie has said in several interviews since last year that Suri is talking up a storm since last March/April. Listening to Katie, who said Suri was saying ‘Good morning Berlin’ every morning last summer at 14-15 months and says ‘Whose that?’, I am shocked little Suri says something as mundane as ‘Dada!’
Here is an interesting factoid about tomcruise.com. It is site that Tom developed for himself. Also, TC has bought up ads on google, so if you google TC, it will bring up pop-ups for his web site.
Does any other A-list star do this for themselves? I know a lot of b-list actors/actresses do because they are unknowns.
NOS: Yes, other A-list star do that. To name a few Adam Sandler, Leonardo DiCaprio, Will Smith, Beckham and etc.
The video wasn’t working, I only saw the first one. Has anyone else noticed that KH now speaks in a really low voice? Someone said on another post that she’d been sent to voice coaching, is that true? I just find it so hard to listen to her when she speaks, in the deep voice where it used to be light, and always interrupting herself as though she’s been trained to think of a more ‘proper’ way to say it.
I used to like Katie – especially after “Go”, but I just find her really hard to take now. She seems too fake. I can’t remember if it was this thread or another where there was discussion about how there is a place in Hollywood for Katie. After Go I thought her place could be indie films. She’s keeping clear of that course though.
And did TC refer to Suri more often than the other kids, or was this just smart editing? I know in interviews that KH refers to Suri and hardly the other kids, but that’s understandable as Suri is her only child, the others are step children.
As for the little I DID see of Tom being interviewed, he came across as he always does: as though he’s playing the part of his life, and not speaking like a normal person. He’s a master of the ‘pretence intense’.
I know a teacher who sometimes laughs when her kids do inappropriate things and only when they get in trouble do they say they’re sorry. She says, yeah, they’re sorry they got caught
In my opinion, same idea here. Moral of this story: if he was truly sorry and wanted the public to know it, he wouldn’t have waited years. Clearly, there was another motive here.
I haven’t yet watched the complete show. Is there anywhere else I can watch it?

Wasn’t Katie’s movie “Mad Money” an indie film? The other movie she was said to be doing if it wasn’t for the writers strike was also an indie movie.
From the clips I’ve seen Tom talks about Suri and Bella. But even if he talk about Suri that might be because of the questions he gets from Oprah.
Regarding Katie and her stepchildren. She talks about them also…actually if I remember right she got a lot of heat for calling them her children.
Ok to clarify, I meant genre indie films, not commercially distributed independent studio films. I guess I should have written indie/arthouse. I think Katie did well in Go and The Ice Storm. Very different to Joey Potter, and good performances.

Tia, you are welcome. I didn’t do anything special though. I just thought it was a really nice moment and I also think that that is what we should all wish for each other…peace and happiness and beauty and love. Life is too short for anything else. We are all flawed and imperfect and make MANY mistakes (even celebrities!) but ultimately we are all just trying to do our best, I think. And I really believe that there is a lot of good in most people.
