When Tom Cruise’s mother and sister moved out of their house, everyone was very quick to blame Katie Holmes for the move. A rep for Tom Cruise has spoken out about the move and has dismissed any claims saying, “This has nothing to do with Katie“.
Tom’s mom and sister have lived with him at his house in Beverly Hills, CA since 2001. For reasons, none of us know about (and really…it’s none of our stinkin’ business anyway!!), both his mom and sister have moved out. Sometimes, it’s just time to move on. I imagine Suri Cruise enjoyed having her grandma and aunt so close!

I believe Katie demanded them to move out. Cruise’s mother & sis have stayed long enough with them. I am sure it was tough to ask them to get their own lives but I support Katie on this one.
why on earth would they move out now??? he just purchased a home that is even larger than his last one….plenty of room for the entire clan!! in addition…..he and katie are rarely home…..they would harldy even have to see his parents with all their globe-hopping. I think its strange that now they decide to leave….very odd, indeed.
Whether Katie had anything to do with it, it’s probably a good thing they moved out. Family is great, but who really wants to live in the same space with their mother-in-law? For most of us, even across the street is too close! LOL. (Even down the street is too close!) And in order for Tom’s family to grow and depend on each other with normal intimacy, sometimes it’s necessary to only depend on your own family. Makes sense to me. Either way, the mom and sister need to have their own place to live. How many mothers and grown sisters live with their son? If Tom wants to, he can have them nearby or buy them a great house when it comes down to it. But they need their own family space. Married couples need to feel free to argue and bond and make changes without the influence of others. Sometimes you HAVE to argue to work through things and get closer…or at least disagree. It’s hard to do that with other people in the picture. So, living alone is important to marital growth. Anyhow, good move. If Katie DID have something to do with it….good for her! The Cruise’s need down-to-earth modeling. At least if she is influencing Tom, he is listening to her! And it seems that Katie is more important to him and he respects her more than many people orginally thought way back when. Look at her! She has a great role on Broadway, for which they bought a NYC apartment so that she could maintain her ability to rehearse and be near family. Tom is listening to her, playing fair, and reciprocating good parenting while allowing her to pursue and follow her own career, too, at least as much as 2 parents can who share a young child. I find that very respectful. Whatever anyone says about the Cruise’s, you have to admit that in some ways, at least Tom has learned from past mistakes. As awkward as he can sometimes be, we have to remember that he was illiterate most of his life and didn’t have the same opportunities for learning and understanding as most of us. He wouldn’t even have been able to read this blog! But he seems like a person who, while somewhat ignorant, is at least trying as much as he knows how to grow. Whether that is “appropriate” to others may not be quite as important as just the motivation to TRY to grow. I give him credit for that. Sometimes he seems simple minded and ignorant, but I sort of truly believe that he THINKS he is doing the best he can and at least attemping to take care of himself and others. That motivation and attempt must count for something.
I don’t know…I wouldn’t want my in-laws to live with me…or worse..my mother!! I love her so dearly but she would drive me crazy within 3 days (as I would her in return). A newly married couple needs time to spend together and having family live with you (that isn’t your kids) can be wearing on a relationship. I think it is silly that Katie took the blame for them moving out though…it kind of makes her seem like a demanding shrew…and that isn’t fair. Even if she DID want them to go she shouldn’t be faulted for that…in my opinion.
Too bad Katie isn’t living in her new mansion either right now.
I agree that it is MUCH healthier that they not live with TC and katie…..I found it intrusive that they were in the same home….I just wondered why now they decided to move out considering that he just purchased such an enormous home….seemed odd to me; healthy, but odd.
M… Tom cruise was never illiterate… he had dyslexia, which is VERY different than illiteracy. He labeled himself in an interview as “functionally illiterate”, but that was more of a poke at himself because of his learning disorder. Dyslexia usually takes on the form of trouble with comprehension, not the reading part itself.
With that said… I don’t give a hoot or a holler about what family members live with them or not – they’re rarely at their main house anyway, so what’s the difference?
I would never live with my own mother let alone my mother in law!!! I am so independent and I like my things done a certain way, my way. My boyfriend knows that. I can’t live with his mother, OMG I woud die if she moved in with us. Gosh does she give orders!
But if it owrks for someone, good for them. Tom moved in with his sister when he divorced from Nicole. Their mother separated from her husband and moved in with them as well. Tom then rented a bigger place for the whole family. Now they bought their own house, I guess he bought one for his mother and sister and now they have moved out.
My guess is that things just fell into place and since Tom has several houses and they had their Telluride home for them alone, the status quo suited them. Besides, they were not there so often, so maybe Katie had no opportunity for running in with her mother in law.
I think when Tom bought an LA he bought for his mother and sister too so that they stop renting. Because they were renting, I deduce that the situation was not parmanent. They all just fell into it. Besides, his home seemed like five houses joined together. Big enough to avoid clashes.

Tyler only Tom and Katie were living at the Scientology centre while their house was being renovated. Tom has an apartment there. Tom’s mom and Cass stayed in the rented house where they all were staying. They did not move with the family to the new house, thus the rumours that they were booted.
Tyler, why would you be snide about Tom’s mum and sister? They are not celebrities and did not do anything wrong to deserve snickers.
Snide must be your interpretation of what I said. I was going for humor. You gotta admit, something juicy is at the heart of this latest development.

M,i don’t think you can reach that level of stardom, producing, running a studio, flying a plane by being simple minded and ignorant.
I hadn’t heard where Tom’s sis and boys were staying, but I think Tyler’s right about Mary (Tom’s mom) – I too have heard that she is currently in an apt at the scientology center. I remember reading that the new house had a guest house where his mom and sis were going to stay, but I’ve always thought it was odd the whole family together like that. I can see taking in a family member while they get back on their feet, or weathering a bad patch, but even a big house can feel small after a while. I imagine that Katie’s marital vows didn’t include “I Katie, take you Tom, your mother, your sister, oh yeah and her 2 kids, to have and to hold, forever & ever, till death do us part…”.
It does strain a marriage, no matter who you are… but it’s nice for the kids that they are still in the neighborhood.

i bet this is just another story they’re all probably still together, its such a big house and the renovations may have included a separate quarters for his mum and the rest of his family, if katie doesn’t mind,its not the end of the world if they live together, maybe they’re all very close, judging by katies interview in Harpers Bazzar, she liked them with her , especially the kids. ithink it would be nice for suri to grow up with her grandmother around her
Nicole and Keith reportedly purchased a home nearby too – a smaller, family-type home, but still beyond anything most of us could imagine.
So where are Conner and Bella living? In all the early reports, it stated that they were living with tc’s sister and mom and that only kh, tc and suri were at the celeb center and then reports were that only tc. kh, and suri moved into the big house.
So where are the original children?
I heard too, that Nicole and her DH, Keith have indeed purchased a nice family home in the LA area. Not too far from tcs house.
She wanted her children with her when their sister was born but their father said no.
Puck you follow their lives and always claim to know so much. Why, you even have someone or another working on a set of their movies at times. No one working at Katie’s theatre in NY to give you the inside scoop about Connor and Bella’s whereabouts? Last I heard from the tabloids they were with their mother. I can’t claim that is true, then again, whatever suits the family. The kids seem well adjusted. I wonder why Nicole just gets a pat on the back for not even having a house where her children live parmanently. She even sold their old home in LA in which the children grew up and moved to Australia. All the gets is a pat. TC is still the evil one, who refused their poor mother from seeing her kids even when she was dying to see them. NOT.
There are reports that Nicole and Keith just bought a house in Beverly Hills. Don’t know if it’s true, but the article even said who they bought it from and showed a picture of it. Beautiful, family-type home and fairly down-to-earth, comparatively speaking.
Tyler: According to what I’ve read on the internet (and who knows how reliable that is…) Tom & Katie were represented by the same person around the time of their marraige (Katie joined Tom’s camp). In the last year, it is said that Katie has changed management to better “focus on her career”.
Lauren & Puck: I was reading In Touch (I think, which ever one has Katie on the cover saying that she and Tom are living separately) and it stated that Conner & Bella would be living in the mansion with Tom, Katie & Suri & that would be the only family members living there… again, reliability is very shaky but I figured I’d put it put there.
In my honest opinion, I was so happy that Nicole had a baby with Keith. Not being a mother, I can’t even imagine raising one’s kids and being with them day in and day out, then getting divorced and seeing them so less frequently like they are distant relatives. I know nothing (as I figure we all do) of the custody agreement, but it must rip one’s heart out to be separated from her kids like that. I’m so happy that she and Keith have Sunday to love and hold and wake up to each day. Please don’t take this to mean that Sunday is by any means a replacement, because she is her own person, but totally and completely theirs – no one to fight with over custody.

Tyler – I really don’t know – the business of reps, PR, agents, managers, etc – it all confuses me – some people have a lot, some have all those jobs rolled into one person. The bigger the celebrity you are, the more people you generally have working for you, but this isn’t always true. I’ve only briefly read that the story was refuted, I don’t know the details. It’s safe to say it was someone from the Cruise camp, but I’m sure that camp involves Katie’s people as well. From a PR stand point, I can see where they might have the same spokesperson (PR), but again, don’t know this for a fact. For as much as I’ve tried to understand that part of the business, t boggles me. It’s never been my job to deal with hat side, so I have little experience there. I’ve tried to learn from my best friend, but he’s got the “all rolled into one” deal!

Tyler: from what I read in the newspaper on Friday, one of the newspaper here contacted TC’s rep to confirm if the rumor are true and they were told Katie had nothing to do with it.
the only real evidence we have about how much time NK spends with her children, are the amount of movies she’s made, double the amount of TC, she makes 3 movies a year or something and she was here in australia for months. TC has made 20 something movies and NK has made 40 something movies and Mary is right , why did the court give TC custody and not the mother, its usally the other way round.

From what I read and pics I’ve seen it looks like NK is all about NK! I mean look at all the pics of her after having the baby she so desperately longed for and not to mention the fact that she is already committed to a film project so soon. Hana: You read the tabs and it is all about Suri. If you read this article in original form, it is only Cruise, Katie and Suri living in the house. The pics of the new home came with captions: It’s all about Suri!
Last year, it was only Cruise, KH, and Suri globe-trotting everywhere and photographed everywhere.
You can’t make these blanket statements with only 2 % of what you see/hearing of someone’s life.
The kids are getting older now so the truth will reveal itself.
BTW, Hana. You might wanna take a look at the comments that appear under articles written about Katie before you offer reader comments as validation.
Tyler, the media makes it out to be ‘all about Suri ‘ not tom or Katie. People can’t speculate about Suri because she’s little and goes with her mum and dad, we know the kids live their father, there really must be a reason for this, we see more of Connor than Bella, but he seemsa very happy and well adjusted young guy and also seems very close to TC. I’m glad there’s such a huge difference in age between the Cruise kids, its always going to be about Suri or any other child Tom and Katie have together, at least the older ones can get on with their life and probably will apreciate not being bothered by the media. i feel sorry for adopted celebrity kids paticularly when the parents have biological kids of their own and they are close in age

I don’t understand why you feel sorry for adopted celebrity kids in general. The Cruises treat Suri like an only child, at least in the public eye, but that doesn’t mean all families do.
Tyler, i did’nt mean within the family, i meant , where the media is concerned, i saw the cover of People mag, the twins on the cover and in the corner there’s a pictureof Shilo and her sister, no Z, i would have liked to have seen S and Z holding the baby together, in that picture, thats what happens to Bella and Connor, as far as the media is concerned it is ”all abou Suri”. Its different in normal families, there are no beauty contests on who is the most beautiful child, every child is beautiful, but the media compares all the time.
Anon.: I agree with you, we only see like 2% of these people’s lives and we can’t make a “blank statement” but you yourself have been making those kind of blank statement on this blog time and time again about Katie and Tom Cruise. I just hope your latest statement applies to you too!
Tyler, I’m aware of what people say about Katie under article written about her on sites like the one I posted, keep in mind I didn’t post a link to a place like JJ or PH, which is mostly full of people who seem angry and have nothing but negative things to say about celebrities in general.

I agree with Annie. The media and tabs are the ones who treat Suri like an only child. Tom and Katie have never made it out to be like she is the only one, even in their interviews. The older kids are old enough to go and say where they want to be….you can’t blame the Cruises for taking their infant with them when they travel.
Annie: If you read the accompanying blurb, AJ brings up Z and Shiloh helping with the babies. In fact, you see the adopted kids out more with AJ-BP than Shiloh.
I really believe it is more the media that has made it Cruise, Holmes, and Suri. But, the majority of Katie’s, and even Cruise’s, comments, when in reference to the family are about Suri. Even the Christmas discussion in the PARADE article was about Suri and her reactions to Christmas. Again, it could be just what the reporter is asking or the simple fact that Suri is Katie’s baby and not the others.
In fact, last fall, there was a huge article in one magazine asking where Bella and Connor were because no one had seen them for a long time. The article also brought up the fact that for the beginning part of the Cruise-Holmes relationship, they were always at Bella’s and Connor’s games and SEEN with the kids. Then, Suri became the main focus and the other two faded into the background.
And Annie, I have NEVER professed to be all knowing about someone’s life…just what I have seen in the media.
And hana, a lot of women go back to work 6 weeks after having a baby and they really don’t have to. Should we condemn them?
Suri was only a few weeks old, when Katie was out and about travelling with TC to Washington to promote his movie, going to movie premieres, etc. Should we condemn her for going to back to work so soon to? (Yes, being seen is part of a celeb’s job.)
Also, Connor and Bella are not that old that they should be pawned off on the nearest family member for convience. It is during the teen years, and Connor is an early teen, that kids need the most guidance from their parents. Besides, what teenager would NOT want to travel to Europe and NYC? If they have a life in L.A. that they cannot be taken away from, then why all of sudden to Cruise and Holmes want to take Bella and Connor with them to NYC? Wonder if that has to with the fact that their real mother is moving to the neighborhood in L.A.

Bella and Connor are still very young. In fact, a thirteen year old is way too young to decide whether he’ll stay in the U.S. or travel to Germany with the family when that family is going to be there for months at a time. Anon is right, it was more convenient. It’ll be interesting to see if TC moves his his family to NYC now that NK is rumored to have a place in LA.

If so, most of you points contradicts what you’ve been saying about Katie going back to work or running errands for couple of hours on another thread. But I guess its now ok because NK does it too?
Yes, most women go back to work 6 weeks after having a baby but in NK’s case a bit surprising seeing that she was going on about how badly she was longing for a baby of her OWN! Her actions shows where her priorities are when it comes to her older kids (of course I might be wrong since I only see or read about “2%” of her life and only going by the fact that she has been given a share custody of her kids with TC). I stopped carrying about NK around 2006 and I don’t care what she does or doesn’t do, BUT when people try to blame TC when it comes to her and older kids, I’ll of course say something and yes, my opinion about NK is only based on what she actually said or did/does.
And regarding Connor and Bella’s football
games…they stopped going their because the under 12 football games were finished around Jan 2006 and after that they were seen going to a private basketball games.
Bella and Connor do travel with their parent/s and have been to Europe many times. Since they don’t like to be in the public eye they can choose to stay behind to do other things and schooling with their aunt who has been their teacher for many years. Why would they travel to NYC (2006-7) when all TK were there for only couple of days here and there to promote a movie? Again they’re not infant and don’t need to be taken everywhere.
Katie joined Tom for the LA premiere of M:I:3, that was the first time she was seen since Suri was born on April 18th, 2006.
The trip to Aberdeen was for a few hours at best and they did not stay…………….They took pictures with the winner and did not stay for the screening.
Lest we forget both Bella and Conor travelled with their father for the promotion of M:I:3 and were in Italy with him and Katie for the filming.
Tom said in an interview that the entire family were together at some point in Germany.
The entire family spent months in Telluride after Suri’s birth…………..They weren’t seen, hence the where was Suri?
When Bella and Conor were in the soccer/ football leagues it was up to a certain age and now they have both gone on to other things.
Their mother has said that they are at an age that they have a say in where they want to be. They love living in LA and they love living with their father.
If NK does indeed move back to LA, then she can keep her long overdue promise of sharing custody more and not asking her kids to constantly travel the world to see her (her words)……………I hope it happens.
Tyler: Nothing will make me happier than NK buying a house in LA. I think that was long overdue!!! And if the kids move to NYC with their father (which I I hope they do) that is ok because NK is in Australia at the moment to finish filming in the movie “Australia” and after that she’ll be in London for few months but by the time she finishes her current projects, Katie will be finished with her Broadway too and the family will be back in LA, so its all good for everyone!

From what I heard Nic will have the baby on set with a nanny to care for it while she is filming. So, Nic is not really ‘abandoning’ Sunday Rose.
I think it is great Katie is working, if that makes her happy. What blows my mind is how as a mom she can leave her two year old, even with dad who is also working full time too, for any time. It is not like she is in the military and has to leave her baby home. She could have taken Suri and a nanny with her. But, then again, katie left her at one year old last year for several weeks to begin filming Mad Money.
And despite all the other caregivers Suri has, it will hurt her that her so-called primary caregiver has left her. And at 2, Suri won’t know or understand why! (I have not been contradictory about that point!!)
Most moms do not willingly take jobs away from her kids. And the same applies to Nicole Kidman and any other mom.
Hana: we don’t know the truth about the situation. It has been stated by several who were members of Cruise’s Church that when a parent left the congregation, their kids were told to ostracize them and cut off all contact.
Who knows if that is happening here or not, but the former statement is also a reality. What I don’t get is why Nicole is not fighting to see her kids, unless she doesn’t want to drag them through this in the media and court.
Reason for that thought: She said in a Letterman interview six months after TC filed for divorce, when LEtterman asked her about the divorce from TC, she said she would not comment about the divorce in the media because there were kids involved. And for the most part, other than saying how shocked she was by the whole thing, she hasn’t said anything.
There was a WOMAN’s DAY article in which someone said Katie was concerned about how the kids were kept from Nicole. So, maybe or maybe not, there is some truth to all the rumors of her being kept from the kids. WE DON”T KNOW THE TRUTH!!
Whether Katie had anything to do or not with Tommy’s family moving out, it is a good thing–finally if this is true and they will no longer be living with them, Katie can be in charge of her own household. I couldn’t imagine living with ONE in-law much less the whole clan–the whole time she has been in this relationship. You can spin that anyway you want to, but that kind of thing is a relationship killer. As I have said before, Katie to this point has been smothered between Tom and his entire family. Time for her to perhaps have some real family time with just Tom, Suri, Bella and Connor-if they don’t continue to live with his sister.
Suri was on the set with Katie when she was filming Mad Money! And from what I read if Tom is working Katie isn’t and when Katie is Tom is not so they can be a family together. And from all the report Suri and the family has/is moving to NYC, so how do you know Suri is not in NYC with a nanny already?
Lets just agree to disagree because what NK is doing is nothing like Katie and family did/does!!
The COURT SYSTEM gave NK a shared custody, so whatever the case is the ball is in her court!!
