According to Variety, Tom Cruise has signed on to do the film, formerly titled “Wichita”, with Cameron Diaz. Both Cruise and Diaz have approved the script and their deals are in the advanced negotiation stage. Sources are saying there is a possible summer 2010 release date.
Cruise will play a secret agent who pops in and out of the life of a single woman.
There was a competition between the films “Wichita” and “Motorcade” and there is still a possibility that he will do both. I am looking forward to seeing Tom and Cameron team up again.

Huh. Not the film I would have chosen for Tom, but he does have an eye for great scripts. I like the idea of a comedy for him. This could work!
If they’re planning on releasing Summer 2010, I wonder how this works with Katie needing to be in Melbourne for 3 months. Tom will have to get started soon to make that date (it takes 9-12 months to shoot, edit, market and release). I hope that doesn’t mean they’ll be apart for long periods of time. That’s not good for a relationship (any relationship – not just theirs). I hope they’re able to work out their filming schedules.

Well her film is shooting this summer correct? When would his film start filming? You are correct though. It would be impossible to do all the back and forth like Katie did while she was in NYC. She looked like a train wreck a lot of the time she was in NYC and then later we find out that almost every weekend she was jetting back and forth between LA and NYC. That had to have been absolutely exhausting and would be totally impossible to do from Australia..

Yes, according to the membership only industry sites that recruit crew, Katie will start principal photography late July/early August. Assuming the normal 3-4 month shooting schedule, they should wrap sometime between November and December.
According to the same sites, Fox has Wichita scheduled to open between May and July, 2010 with no specific date, which means they’d need to start principal photography, at the very latest in October.
IF they keep to the release date for Wichita, Katie and Tom’s shooting schedules will overlap by quite a bit. I’m not speaking off the top of my head here. My husband and I both work in the industry, just not in front of the camera. ;)
I also thought Katie looked totally exhausted during All My Sons and I’m sure the bicoastal flights on weekends didn’t help matters. IMHO, it would have been much easier on she and Suri had Tom done more of the flying since he was the one NOT working, but it seems she did quite a bit of running which I find unfair. As you said, that’s not an option if she’s filming in Australia. As I said earlier, a long separation is NOT good for any relationship, no matter who the couple is! Cruise had waited this long to choose a project. He stayed out of work for so long! IMHO, it would be nice if he waited until AFTER Katie is done shooting to make things easier on her. He’s much more established. He should have no problem doing that!!
I’m hoping he chooses to ask that filming be delayed until the family can stay together. IMHO, that would be the right thing for him to do in order to be supportive for Katie and not make her life harder than it needs to be.
