CW wants Smallville to continue through season 9, and they have reportedly been negotiating with Tom Welling for an extended contract. The latest rumor was that only minor details are being worked out.
At this point, nothing is definite nor final for an extension of Smallville for another year.
However, there are unconfirmed reports that Tom Welling may be directing episodes 21-22, which are the final episodes of the season. Superman United speculates this might be THE farewell episode of Smallville.
As in final.
In my opinion this is obviosly regarded as mostly an honour and a thank you for 8 years of service for his portrail as Clark Kent.
I agree, but it doesn’t mean this is the last of Smallville, right? Hopefully not! I’m not ready to say goodbye yet.
I wonder if Tom Welling will give in to fans’ petitions?

TOO OVERLONG TOO BORING.we just glad KK escape this disaster.
I think it is an honour for Tom to direct episodes 21 and 22 of season 8…but I would really love to see him come back for another season. If there is a petition to ask for him to come back, where do I sign?

Definately come back for one more season! and plz tom com back for one more season. and to the ple who dont want it back and are over it and think its boring then why stil watch it?? there are heaps more fans out here who love the show and want it back but dont say it cuz they either cant or what not, just because u dont want it u dont have to ruin it for the other thousands of fans who do! thanks!
Lana and KK were the ruination of Smallville. Season 8 was awesome until she came back. Most past season’s episodes were also better when she wasn’t around.

word is out that Smallville is returning for a season 9! And I am so thrilled about it!
truth – actually i liked the episodes that Lana were in this season. I thought the writers paid her a fitting tribute as part of the bigger Superboy mythos. And that goodbye scene with Clark was so heartwrenching! We can’t really deny she’s a vital part of Smallville… but also it was time to say goodbye.
