Tony Bennett and Christina Aguilera to duet at Emmy’s

I truly believe that Christina Aguilera is the real pop diva. She has a string of hit albums and now, she has the honor of singing with Tony Bennett! Sweet!

Here’s one reason to watch the Emmys beyond the awards: Tony Bennett and Christina Aguilera will reprise “Steppin’ Out,” their duet from the NBC special, “Tony Bennett: An American Classic.”

When the special premiered in November, I wrote: “Christina Aguilera celebrates Bennett’s appeal to the MTV generation by joining him for a splashy rendition of ‘Steppin’ Out.’ [Director Rob] Marshall’s use of sultry, strutting dancers recalls Bob Fosse’s ‘Cabaret.’ Aguilera slinks through the number with Jean Harlow-like sexiness. Vocally, Aguilera and Bennett make a fun, formidable team.”

They will perform the number live Sept. 16 at the Shrine Auditorium. Ryan Seacrest will host the Emmys. Marshall and choreographer John DeLuca will re-create the Bennett-Aguilera number, which means it should look fabulous. The Bennett special is nominated for eight Emmys.
