Robert Pattinson, who played Cedric Diggory, is making his way again on the silver screen, this time in an adaptation of Stephanie Meyer’s popular book “Twilight”. He spoke to MTV about his experiences with Harry Potter:
MTV: You’re the only actor to appear in both the “Harry Potter” and “Twilight” universes. Is Stephenie Meyer’s material meatier, in your opinion?
Pattinson: In a lot of ways. My character certainly is [more substantial] than the character I played in “Harry Potter” [Cedric Diggory], mainly because the entire thing is based on Edward’s character and who he is. He is very tortured and conflicted, which is very different from what I played in “Harry Potter.” But it’s a completely different style of book.
MTV: How so?
Pattinson: “Twilight” is a first-person narrative. It’s very obsessive, and it’s a much more personal book, I think, than “Harry Potter” is, in a lot of different ways. There are only two characters pretty much in the trilogy. Well, I guess three, but essentially two. It’s just about a love story rather than a massive adventure and an entire world. It’s set as much as possible in the real world, so it’s different. – source
I have to admit, I haven’t read any of these books, but they look really good. Any readers out there who want to comment? Should I give ‘em a try?

Um, if only so that you know what the “twilight” cultural phenomenon is all about…yes, you should read these books. And if you like somewhat addictive teen obsessive romance with action and mythical creatures, you’ll like these books. Start reading them now and you’ll be ready for the 4th book when it comes out on August 2nd.
The Twilight books are amazing! Of course, I don’t think that they’re better than the Harry Potter books, but I would highly recommend reading the first three. Breaking Dawn, the fourth book in the series, comes out on August 2nd. Before you start the series, however, just keep in mind that these books are very addicting! I read the three books in three days. Hope this helps!
I have very much enjoyed the first three Twilight books, really excellent. You have to read them in the state of mind that they differ completely from the Harry Potter books, so you can’t really compare them.
YESS!!! You should totally read the Twilight series. I mean I am still for Harry Potter all the way, but Twilight is amazing, and I think you would really enjoy it and the rest of the series
I agree. You should read the series.
They are very different in a lot of ways than harry potter, but they are soo good.
The only books I like to read are Harry Potter and Twilight. there’s so much suspense in both of them. its great.
Ummm. . . I read them and they were nice but nothing like the thrilling, adventurous world of Harry Potter. I read them because a friend reccomeded them but if you don’t read them you are not missing anything worth while.
Harry Potter will always be my favorite book series, but the Twilight books are AMAZING!!! Totally different from Harry Potter, except that they both have mythical creatures. So definitely, you should read them.
vive xe
the twilight series is amazing!!!! i thought i would never say this, but i personally think it’s better than harry potter. don’t kill me, though! twilight is a lot more personal, i guess because it’s written in first person. it only took me three days to finish the first 3 books, and i’m sure i can finish the fouth (breaking dawn) in a day as well! only 7 days till the release!!
i still love harry potter, too!!!! <3
NO! DO NOT read Twilight. It is without a doubt the worst-written novel I’ve ever read. The characters are two-dimensional, and the lines are cheesy. Bella is what fanfic writers call a “Mary Sue”. She’s beautiful, she’s perfect, and everyone loves her. Why? Because she’s Stephanie Meyer’s paper-and-ink copy. The whole love affair between Bella and Edward is ridiculous and stupid. There’s no evidence to show how they fell so madly in love, and the whole heroic Edward/damsel Bella thing gets old REALLY fast. This book is a waste of time. It may offer a cute scene or two, but that’s really all it has. The plot is linear and completely banal, the characters are stupid and unbelievable, the dialogue is on the nose and cheesy, and everything in between sounds like it was written by a 14-year-old.
I am flaberghasted everytime I hear someone call her the next JK Rowling. Meyer is NOT a brilliant writer by any means, and her novels (if you could call them that) are terrible in their own right, but even worse when compared to the Potter series.
Don’t waste your time on this drivel, and PLEASE don’t be brainwashed into thinking it’s some sort of masterpiece. It really could have been written by some pre-teen, what with its romanticized and unrealistic view of love, its God-awful characters and its monotone narrative style.
whoa i agree^^^
STOP DISSING TWILIGHT. REALLY YOU PEOPLE GOT SOME SERIOUS PROBLEMS. STOP COMPARING HARRY POTTER AND TWILIGHT COZ THEY HAVE NOTHING IN COMMEN EXCEPT THAT THEY BOTH FANTACY. ITS A ROMANTIC NOVEL WHAT DO U EXPECT THE NOVEL TO BE LIKE. MEYER IS A GREAT WRITER IN HER OWN WAY N JK AS WELL. THEY HAVE A DIFFERNT WRITING STYLE. DONT DISS THE BOOK AND DONT JUDGE IT BEFORE U READ IT.
I love twilight i finished the first two books and they are AMAZING! i can’t wait to read the next two love you EDWARD and BELLA
yeah i agree with meredith…nice one gurl!…dont you ever compare this twilight to harry potter…never..you guys dont have taste in literature and lazy for someone saying that its much better than hp..you guys are losers and stupid…that one is just a typical crap love story abt vampires..and its not even that exciting to read…you should compare that twilight to chick flicks movie/story…look this twilight grossed 200 million plus only at the box office since its date released from today…harry potter is an international sensation ..i just cant stand this whole sh*t!…ive never heard of this twilight since the movie came out…i just wasted my money when i watched it last year…stupid movie and no talent actors…robert pattinson got killed on the harry potter thats why he switched to this retarded movie…you guys are all losers…twilight fans!
Meredith said pretty much what I think of the Twilight books. I gave in to reading the first one thinking it might actually be good… oh, man was I wrong! I couldn’t get pass the first chapters of the book in a month!
The writing is mediocre; the story is nothing new (except if you want to add these vamps are vegetarians); and the hype for these books is still a mystery to me.
twilight books are failtacular in my opinion.
And can people please stop comparing HP to twilight? HP is fantasy. twilight is romance. completely different genres. it just appeals to young kids and old married women who wish there was an edward stalker in their lives for real. Not good quality books.
even robert.P thinks meyer is a bit crazy.
Harry Potter is better any day and in every way.
These are some of the arguments that I’ve heard on numerous sites supporting Twilight:
-The Twilight people are prettier!
-The Harry Potter books are for smart people! (I am not making this one up! I’ve heard it 4 times on one site from different people!)
-It just is!
-There’s no love in Harry Potter!
-Twilight is more realistic!
-This is one I heard that made me roll on the floor in laughter:
“And when you read the twilight series its a series you can put down, you know, cause it’s boring. The HP books would keep you up, too exciting. That’s why Twilight is waaay better than Harry Potter.”
That’s the exact quote.
Okay, here’s my response.
-There are more important things than appearance! Any Harry Potter fan knows that. Meyer cannot quite grip that concept.
-Um, if you’re saying Harry Potter is for smart people, what does that say about Twilight? That it’s for stupid people? What a compliment…
-”It just is” is NOT a valid reason. At least state WHY you think it is better.
-How is there no love in Harry Potter? Harry Potter is all about love! It’s about how love is the most powerful thing in the world! There’s unrequited love, friendship love, family love, motherly/fatherly love, and a little romance as well. Oh, you mean there’s no good looking creeper stalking the helpless main character. Bella and Edward are NOT in love; it is merely lust and obsession caused by neither character having a life. The only thing Bella “loves” about Edward is his beauty, as well as his eternal life.
-Even though Harry Potter has more magic, it is still more realistic that Twilight. Do you know why? Because Harry Potter characters go through realistic emotions. Hogwarts is still a school, and it shows real situations we all can relate to. Harry Potter shows the characters growing up, and I have been lucky enough to grow up with them. Twilight’s school is a place where you’re automatically popular unless you’re a vampire. There are NO realistic emotions within any of the characters, who don’t have personalities. Nothing to relate to.
-Um… okay. I always found that a good book keeps you excited and hungering for more. I don’t like books that bore me. But to each his own, right?
Twilight is anti feminist and unbearably shallow. There is NO moral. Living forever is NOT a good thing, but like I said, Meyer is too shallow to figure that much out. JK Rowling deals with all kinds of depth, and every time you read it you find something new, even if you’ve read it 15 times already.
All Bella does the entire series is whine and complain non-stop. Oh, she does pause occasionally to talk about how pretty her sparkly vampire is. She is so pathetic, it is beyond words. She’s also extremely rude and abusive towards her friends, using them when it is beneficial for her and then dumping them like garbage. She’s not the only abusive one. Edward abuses Bella. He manipulates her and dominates her and controls her life. This is NOT “selflessness”. Meyer tries to pass it off like it is, but it doesn’t take a genius to see that it isn’t.
Harry Potter is better that Twilight in every way, shape and form. Twilight is a fad that will disappear in a few years. Harry Potter will live on forever.
HARRY POTTER > twilight
(BTW: After reading Eclipse, I threw the book out my bedroom window, retrieved it, and repeated this action several times. It was extremely satisfying XD)
Twilight was horrid. Do. Not. Read. It. Didn’t Pattinson say that the book was like Stephanie Meyer’s sexual fantasy? That just tells you how good the book it.
I threw the book literally after one chapter because I thought a sixth grader could do better. And here’s a little quote.
“The real difference [between J.K. Rowling and Meyer] is that Jo Rowling is a terrific writer, and Stephenie Meyer can’t write worth a darn. She’s not very good.”
-Stephen King
What does that tell you?
