Tyra Show Explores Vaginas on November 5

tyra banks vaginaUh, yeah. You read that correctly. Tyra Banks is going to dedicate an episode to helping women understand their vaginal areas. This was the press release:

TALK SHOW HOST TYRA BANKS DEDICATES AN ENTIRE SHOW TO “DOWN THERE,” “GROUND ZERO” AND “HOO HA” — OTHERWISE KNOWN AS THE VAGINA, ON “THE TYRA BANKS SHOW” AIRING ON MONDAY, NOVEMBER 5

Talk show host dedicates an entire hour to discussing the vagina with her audience, on “The Tyra Banks Show,” airing on Monday, November 5 (check local listings for stations and times). From the look of the vagina to the newest ways to prevent HPV, Tyra holds a no-holds barred discussion with her audience about the least talked (and looked at) about part of a woman’s part. Tyra says, “I have wanted to do this show for two years. I know for a lot of women talking about what is going on in our bodies is extremely difficult, but it is incredibly important. We should be able to talk to our daughters, sisters, mothers and friends about our bodies and not be embarrassed. I hope after this show women will not be ashamed about what’s up down there.”

Tyra begins the hour giving her audience a test to see if they can name all the parts of the vagina to unbelievable results – only 11% of her audience filled out the anatomical chart correctly. Shocked by the results, Tyra welcomes gynecologist Dr. Debby Herbenick to give her viewers a quick tour of their nether regions with a velvet and satin “vagina puppet” pointing out the clitoris, the labia minora and labia majora and the urethra.

Having avoided the doctor for 28 years, Tyra takes a Plano, Texas woman, who happens to be a registered nurse, to her very first gynecological appointment. After the woman breaks down in tears, Tyra gives her support and holds her hand of the woman while she has her first PAP test and breast exam with Dr. Michelle Francis of New York. Tyra says, “As we were getting closer to the exam, I could literally feel how tense she was.” Tyra welcomes the woman and Dr. Francis back to her stage to talk about her experience and to give her the results of her PAP – and to make her promise to go again next year.

Also on the show, Tyra introduces gynecologist Dr. Donnica Moore who educates Tyra’s audience on the importance of PAP smears and the newest vaccination for young women that can prevent the human papillomavirus – a virus that can cause cancer.

Tyra also shares with the audience the moment her mother gave her a hand mirror and told her to look at herself “down there.” Tyra says, “My mother told me to look at myself because, ‘It’s just another part of your body that needs to be healthy just like your eyes, your nose, your ears, your mouth and everything else.’”

OMG, Is this what daytime T.V. is really about? Why Can’t we fix this dilemma? I think Tyra is a complete idiot. She honestly has the most stupid and embarassing topics on her show. Give me a friggin break. Is this the best that we can do with our society? And I’m so sick and tired of hearing about her damn IBS issues as well. Have some class Tyra!!! Great example to set for the millions of young girls who look up to such people. I think she is is an embarrassment to young black women everywhere. What a disgrace. She should be ashamed of herself and as so should her mother.

I think its great, this show concept. and i think its great that Trya has the guts to talk about her IBS (pun intended) I have Crohns disease, a more serious type of IBS, and until a few years ago it was Taboo to talk about and living in alaska, i was literally isolated from others going through it. hearing others talk about it, nationally on TV, is great, and helped me be more open about it and reach out to others who have it, so stuff it.

Geena, theres a really easy way to not watch the shows you are talking about. Turn off your television. Thats it. :) Pretty easy huh?

I thank Tyra for talking about IBS!! I have suffered with this for over 3 years now and was so embarassed to even talk about it.. she really has guts to bring it up in front of a live audience. Genna must not understand what living with this condition can do for a person and their life!!! I would never wish it apon anyone, but Genna live one day in our shoes and see why Tyra talks about it so much! Also get over that fact that Tyra keeps it real! Your children should be in school at noon anyway when the Tyra show airs! Thank you Tyra for opening up and keeping your shows real!

I feel really bad for Tyra… I have IBS and cannot believe the stuff people are saying about her and her accident!

IBS is something in which there is no treatment, and no cure. It’s something you have to put up with for the rest of your life! I’m glad Tyra’s speaking out about it whenever she can because it really does need more attention – it’s not classified as a disease, which is why no research is being done.. so us IBS sufferers have to put up with clueless doctors and no solutions.

hey ladies, I am just here to tell you that there is a cure for ibs, and I have truly found it! First of all you have to change your diet, no wheat, bread, wheat pastas, then you have to cleanse all the time, then add enzymes to your diet, to help you digest better. contact dr. sebi , use his wonderful cell cleansers. they really work all the best!

Ok, lets get real. How many years have men been looking at our vaginas?

How long are we going to stay ignorant to how to take care of our own female anatomy?

Do you know that a great number of older textbooks actually are incorrect in dissecting and labeling the female anatomy and that the womans sexual organs are way bigger than a mans? I am thankful to pioneers who corrected this problem, developed a better (tampon) so that we could actually have more freedom during our menses and different convenient items that we take for granted and yet still dont understand.

Grown women still dont know where they urinate from. Its about time we find out. Ignorance whether comfortable or not is something that is shameful considering we can walk on the moon but cant find the g-spot, or tell a labia from a vulva. Watch the show, even if you dont like it, remember this is a first time in a long time that we have gotten attention to our anatomy without having some man/men making it out to be sexual. Lets grow up. Take Care-Rachel.
