Here is the synopsis for Ugly Betty episode 4.09. (Hat tip: SpoilerTV). The episode will be entitled "Be-Shure" It looks to be hi-larious.
"Be-Shure" – Against the backdrop of Ignacio’s multi-culti holiday dinner that he prepares for his new flame Jean (Faith Prince), who is Jewish, Betty and Hilda have pregnancy scares. Worse, they purchase their Be-Shure instant pregnancy tests from the local pharmacy — where Jean works and Ignacio is shopping. Meanwhile, Hartley installs Willie’s replacement, a clueless Hollywood mogul, Denise Ludwig (Nadia Dajani), whose claim to fame is a tacky movie, but Marc has a plan to get Willie back — if only Daniel will agree. And Claire gets Amanda’s help and tracks down Tyler (Neal Bledsoe), the son she long ago gave up for adoption.
First of all – Ignacio’s "new flame"? Ignacio gets around as much as Betty. :) But, as for the premise, Ugly Betty does this sort of comedy better than anyone. (Cultural comedy that would be cringe-inducing on another show).
It looks like the show will try to get some Juno-style laughs (well, the first 10 minutes of Juno) with the dual pregnancy scare. I’ve always wondered if they would ever go there with Betty. I don’t know if I like it – I am, after all a Dad, and a daughter’s unexpected pregnancy isn’t exactly comedy to me. :) But, the majority of Betty’s fans are young women, so maybe something’s just getting lost in translation.
It also makes me wonder who the possible father might be. I’m assuming Matt, but you never know.
The premise of Hilda and Betty both shopping for pregnancy tests when Ignacio walks in has the possibility of being one of the funniest ever scenes on UB, up there with ‘My Milkshake’.
I’m also interested in Marc’s plan to get Wilhelmina back. You just know she won’t be gone from Mode for too long, nor should she. And, this brings up a question I hadn’t thought of: when Willi leaves, will Marc still be at Mode? Who will he be assisting, if so?
And now I understand the photos of Becki Newton and Judith Light; my guess was correct – Amanda will help Claire find her long-lost son.
This episode airs December 11, so it will probably be the last episode airing before the midseason break, I think. It looks to be a good one!

Tom, I understand your fatherly feelings regarding the pregnancy topic, but since we all know that Betty and Hilda are sexually active, I think that it is the responsible thing for the audience to see that there are potential consequences for the choices that the characters make. And, as you have said, the scene with Ignacio at the pharmacy has the potential to be one of the funniest we’ve ever seen on the show.

They both are taking pregnancy tests??? Wow, no birth control pill or patch? They both know about condoms. Lol, that’s kinda crazy to me.

I think that the plotline with Betty and the pregnancy test is really surprising and has the potential to be an interesting one. I definitely agree with you Tom- I honestly NEVER thought that the show would go there with Betty, but I’m glad that they finally decided to touch on the subject! There’s suppose to be a pregnancy midway through the 4th season (I read this in an Ausiello spoiler) and so I wonder if it’s Betty, but I think that it will probably most likely be Hilda since I think that Betty is still too young to deal with a pregnancy. If this is the last episode before the December hiatus, the cliff hanger will probably revolve around who’s pregnant. Since this is a situation that the character Betty has never been put in, I am REALLY looking forward to how Betty handles it and I think that it will be a good opportunity to see America Ferrera really shine as an actress!
In response to Realme2008’s comment, I think that there may possibly be some forms of birth control that are not 100% effective (there’s a risk with everything) and some women are on it, but forget on one occasion for whatever reason. I think Betty and Hilda are both smart enough to use protection (okay, maybe just Betty!). Gee, I really hope that this comment thread doesn’t turn into a discussion on the effectiveness of certain forms of birth control or how sexually active both of the characters are! :) But, with a plot synopsis like that, the creators were just asking for it!

I know what your thinking Realme2008 but birthcontrol pill or patch is only 98% effective, and so is condoms… Condoms are known for breaking from time to time… I know when I was on birth control I had many of times where I thought I could be pregnant but they always come out as false alarms… I have to agree it’s kinda of crazy that they both think they are pregnant at the same time.. But I find it very comical that Papi will be at the pharmacy when they are buying the pregnancy test…
Tom, it is Matt! Matt has dinner with them that night… So, I’m assuming either in the level 7 with me episode they get back together or the Bahamas episode…. Either way the next three episodes of Ugly Betty is going to be entertaining….
I’m really curious to see the scenes with Amanda and Claire…. I think it is interesting that Amanda will help Claire find her son….

Oh, THIS is going to be good.
Amanda helping Claire sounds odd but it kind of makes sense – after all, Amanda still doesn’t know who her father is, and she seems to be growing as a person. While quietly helping Claire with something sensitive or semi-illicit would normally fall to Betty, Amanda would more likely be moved to give Claire and Cal’s son the answer she herself doesn’t have. Too bad Amanda has a history of being a bit indiscreet – that could spell disaster.

Are you kidding Betty will may get pregnancy test,she never had a sex with man,but we will find out. I was wonder why Hilda want pregnancy test,maybe sex with Archie on episode 4 The Wiener,the Bun and the Boob.
