Ugly Betty Episode 4.11 Title, Synopsis

SPL141246_009 Here is the synopsis for Ugly Betty, episode 4.11, entitled “Back In Her Place”, airing Wednesday, January 13 at 10p EST.

A battered but unbowed Betty recounts her worst week EVER to Mr. Z (guest star Fisher Stevens) as the show flashes back to her horrible last few days. Frustrated over the frivolous assignments Wilhemina gives her at Mode, and inspired by Audrey Hepburn’s memoir, Betty creates her own blog about amazing charitable ventures that inspire her. However, as her hobby enriches her, her job is nearly killing her, since Wilhemina tortures Betty with beauty experiments for future stories. Meanwhile, Daniel fears Marc is sabotaging him — and he is; Bobby treats a hormonal Hilda to some pampering during "Hilda Week," which goes awry, and Wilhelmina makes a long-term commitment to the incarcerated Connor.

I’ll make a quick guess and say that the title (and the existence of Mr Z) means that Betty is going to move out on her own again.  Or, am I totally off base about that?

I’ve always loved Fisher Stevens – it will be awesome if he doesn’t play the “creepy guy” he usually portrays.

The part with Audrey Hepburn’s memoir and starting a blog looks like it’ll have a touch of “Julie and Julia”.  It’s a good thing we already know and love Betty, because, as Julie and Julia showed, we bloggers are very hard to make interesting on screen.  :)

Three things we know, spoiler-wise, about episode 4.10 because of this synopsis:

  • Wilhelmina will be back at Mode (and torturing Betty).
  • Marc will not yet be working for her.
  • Hilda will have told Bobby that he’s the father of her child.

Of course, the last one could very well NOT be the case, but I’m guessing it is, and that’s why Bobby is pampering Hilda.

And, what kind of “commitment” is Wilhelmina going to make to Connor?  Marriage?  One thing is certain; there’s still a good possibility he’s scamming her.  Her love for him is probably her only weakness.

This episode was written by Abraham Higginbotham (Blue on Blue, he’s also a Will and Grace alum).  One VERY odd thing: at Higginbotham’s IMDB page, he’s listed as having written an episode entitled “Shoe Strings”, which supposedly aired October 16th (“The Butterfly Effect” parts 1 and 2 aired that night).  Anybody know what that’s about?

Anyway, this one has the chance of being an EXCELLENT episode.

Yes, whether you’re a Detty, a Hetty, a Getty, or a Metty, we can all agree on hoping that the new time slot will improve the ratings. There’s some holiday unity for us!

its hard to keep the viewers when you’re on for a month and then go off again.I think that we will get 4 episodes in january before it goes on a month long hiatus in february. Also a few weeks back i read that we are only getting 22 episodes this season. Was hoping for maybe 24 or just pushing it 25.lol.

When I speak for the point of the show, I speak for my POV, and in my opinion this is the point: Daniel and Betty to get together!!! Yes, I want to see her becoming successful in her career, but what really matters FOR ME is to see those two finally realising that they are in love!!! I ship them from season 1, they have been through so much together, they complete each other!! I haven’t seen any other guy looking at Betty the way Daniel does! I haven’t seen Betty huging any other guy like she hugs Daniel!!

It’s obvious that they look for each other in other people (Matt/Molly), the Detty is bound to happen! They are meant to be!Any other finale will for me be dissatisfying!Like something is missing!

And if they ever get together it won’t be the end of the show, it will be the beginning!! I want to see the whole process!! Daniel realizing his feelings, to be in denial at first, his fears that if things go wrong he’ll lose her from his life etc. Perhaps also Claire could help the Detty to happen.

Many people were saying that if the Detty ever happened the fans would lose the interest in the show, well the Detty hasn’t happen, yet the show was very close to its cancellation. We still don’t know if it will have another season! The Detty is not what will kill the show, is what will keep it alive. In my opinion always!

Anne, of course I understand what you’re saying. I know that you’re just sharing your opinion. I guess the point I was trying to make is that it is absolutely impossible for writers of every series to make everyone happy. If we end up with Detty, the Gettys, Hettys, and Mettys are all unhappy. If we end up with Metty, the Dettys, Gettys, and Hettys are unhappy. If we end up with Hetty… Well, you get the point. It kind of makes me glad that I’m not a TV writer.

As for the way Daniel and Betty look at each other, I agree that nobody has looked at Betty the way Daniel has, and nobody has looked at Daniel the way Betty has, but the only looks I’ve seen exchanged between them so far have been looks of friendship. There hasn’t been one hint of romance whatsoever. But I’m certainly not saying that romance between them isn’t possible someday. After all, I think that a strong friendship is a great basis for a great love. And I trust the writers enough to think that they really could build up a believable romance between Betty and Daniel. I just haven’t seen anything other than possible slight hints over the past three and a half seasons. I hope ABC gives us all enough time to see where the show’s creators and writers want to take their (and our) characters.

Yes, I get your point. At the end some of us will get disappointed! I’s impossible for the writers to keep everyone happy. Yet in order to be realistic I do believe that if this isn’t UB’s last season the “fight” for Betty’s heart will be b/w Daniel and Matt.
I think that Daniel will be the one guy, cause Horta has stated twice that the Detty possibility is open and because of the kiss in “Level 7 with me”.

I disagree that what we have seen between them are indications of pure friendship and nothing more. I wouldn’t ship them if this was the case. Ok there’s nothing clear, but I’ve seen them huging and holding hands in a way that means more than just a friendship.

Haha, yeah but what if Cal Hartley blows everyone up ala’ Sledge Hammer? j/k I think if creators can take the best elements of what exists on the telenovella and a bit of 1983’s “Trading Places” to it, then this show might get back on track.

Right now, with everyone playing nice the tension is too uneasy. There needs to be some consistent shock value that isn’t going to cultivate big business both on the borrough streets and wall street applauding their bad behavior.

I thought the whole point of Betty and Supernanny being shown back to back is so people got the picture that those two got alot of things in common regarding essential child-rearing. Putting those back over on Wednesdays as a team would, I think, do wonders for showing all of TV land how unscripted and scripted television can make a great tag team
(but the new twist being in *female* solidarity.)

Anne, even though I really like Betty’s relationship with Matt, I too am glad that Mr. Horta is no longer saying that a Betty/Daniel relationship is out of the question. I never liked the way that he, America Ferrera, and Eric Mabius used to insist that Betty and Daniel would never get together. Even if they didn’t want to give away a possible ending for the series, they also shouldn’t have ruled one out, especially an ending that a large group of fans has been hoping for or even counting on. I do think that it would be helpful to get, at the very least, a 13-episode fifth season. Not only would this give the writers enough time to develop a romantic relationship between Betty and Daniel, it would also bring the episode total up to an even 100 (I like increments of 10, for some reason. Yes, I’m a freak.).
