If the producers of Ugly Betty wanted to increase interest by whipping up controversy about the show’s romantic endgame, well, executive producer Silvo Horta put an end to it rather quickly.
(and foolishly, IMHO)
According to TV Guide Magazine, Horta wants to reunite Betty and Henry (Christopher Gorham), if indeed season four is the final season. Guide says Horta believes Henry "is the true love of Betty’s life."
Hey, I’m just the messenger here.
Let me first say this: I don’t think a Benry pairing would be the worst ever ending for the show (that would be if they brought back Walter and Betty ran off with him :) ).
Even though Betty/Daniel is the pairing I’d most like to see, and that hookup has happened in every previous version of the show, I just think Horta shouldn’t have said anything about his Benry preference yet.
Why dash the hopes of Daniel, Gio, Matt, and Bobby fans so soon in this (most likely) final season?
The Ugly Betty writers have been wonderful this season with surprises (did anyone see Justin’s "I’m not gay" declaration coming?), so I have no idea why Horta would tip his hand in such an important area.
Now, for what it’s worth, the TV Guide article does not have a direct Horta quote, but this IS TV Guide, so we have no reason not to believe the gist of the story. They DO, however, quote Chris Gorham:
“I’m certainly attached to the idea of Henry and Betty being together.”
I’m trying to figure out how this news fits in with EOnline’s Kristin’s story about a divided Ugly Betty writers team.
I’ve told you what I think. So, tell me what you think of this (let’s play nice!).
Popping popcorn…

I don’t want Daniel and Betty together, cuz he always had a sex with different model every day and not Betty’s type. Please no more bring Henry come back again, because he had a son andex gf last 2 season and not good enough for Betty.I kinda like Gio because he is so funny,he is good and care for Betty but not Betty’s type. Honest I really like Matt, because he is really good and care of Betty, also if may almost become fall love in Betty until 3 season, but I hope they get together this season. Matt is sweet guy, trust and care of Betty until season 3.

OMG-UB, I realy understand what you are saying, but I really can not accept seing Betty with a character who has already left the series. I am sorry, but I think it is above all very wrong with the audience. If henry for example was “expelled” from the series at a certain point, why should we accept him back and accept this wacko idea that “Henry is Betty`s other half”???
Henry is not Mr. Big from Sex and the Series, a character who was constructed in a way to be most of the time out and come back regularly as a proof he was intended to be with Carrie Bradshaw.
Other than that, it is very disrespectful with Eric Mabius and with the rest of us. The way the writers conducted his story put him in the position of being with Betty in the end because he is now a widow. By the end of this season – if it comes to be the last – in case he starts something with another woman other than Betty, it can and will be considered way too fast after loosing what seemed to be “the love of his life”. The only way Daniel`s character and saga can be respected is ending the show wth Betty, someone he knows for 4 years and, without knowing, developed a very meaninful and deep relationship. For me, it really comes to this point. I love Silvio Horta, I am very thankful for the show he put together, but I can not accept this absurd. I also respect Christopher Gorham, i folow his carear since the “Popular” series, but if he accepts returning for this end, only because Silvio Horta all alone thinks Henry should be with Betty, I’d blame him as an artist, or supposed to be artist for putting personal interests above the essence of a good story.

Jessica, your reasoning is correct, but don’t you think Daniel has grown up a little bit over the years and has, in a lot of ways, redeemed himself?
For some crazy reason, the only name I accept as a competidor for Daniel is Henry, and the only reason is that he hasn’t done anything wrong with her, om the contrary. Even during the episode “Betty´s Land” os something like that, in season 3, I understood what his character was saying. The only MAJOR problem with Gio for me is that Betty was never in love with him. Or never came to feel anything really meaningful for him. I wouldn’t know how would the writers do since he is also out of the show and he would need some time to be reintroduced to Betty`s universe, which is, by the way, very crowded with new characteres and storylines and so….

I MISTYPED. I meant THE ONLY COMPETIDOR FOR DANIEL, IN MY OPINION, IS GIO.Not Henry. GIO. Sorry….

I know it won’t be Gio because Betty doesn’t “feel that way” about him and hasn’t mentioned him since. It’s just such a lame excuse the writers came up with because Gio and Betty hands down had the most chemistry on the show and Gio would definitely be a great guy from Queens to keep Betty down to earth as she rises in the superficial magazine world. My second pick would be Matt because he and Betty are cute together and it would be nice for Betty to end up with a rich guy who could help her become part of Manhattan’s elite.

Yeah, it’s not as bad as if Betty was to end up with Walter, but it’s CLOSE! VERY CLOSE! After all what’s their difference? Walter was the super geek and Henry is just the geek! Just the idea of Betty and Henry getting together at the end, makes me wanna stop watching UB right now!
Horta keeps confusing the fans..First DANIEL and BETTY are like siblings, then they may or may not end up togteher and now Henry is the guy! What can I say?
Why is it so hard for the writers to realise the obvious? DANIEL AND BETTY ARE MEANT TO BE!!!
These two characters are made to fall in love!!! Any other finale, Benrt, Getty, Metty or whatever will just DISAPPOINTING!
The show has no point without the DETTY!!!!!

I for one, am in agreement with Horta on this one. Henry and Betty were perfect for eachother, they just screwed it up when they decided to add more drama in Betty’s life with Gio. We all loved how Bett and Henry fell in love and then quickly everyone turned on him. He was the bigger man choosing to raise the baby, but he still loved Betty very much.It would be great if Horta could find a way to get them back togetherand still have Henry the guy we fell in love with. Remember, Charlie is the one that made Henry the not-so-likable guy. I hope Gorham does come back for a few.

Don’t you just love how the Henry supporters make him out to be some kind of saint – as if his ‘downfall’ was completely attributed to someone else but NOT him? Let’s get one thing straight: He strung along two women at the same time – both Betty AND Charlie. In other words, he was having an EMOTIONAL AFFAIR with Betty and he didn’t have the cojones to tell Charlie that he had feelings for Betty. He could’ve nipped things in the bud the minute Charlie arrived in NYC, but he wasn’t man enough to tell her. He was spineless, so he led her on, and in the end, he hurt both women.
So, Karen? Don’t even try to defend him. BTW, you shouldn’t be in agreement with Silvio because he NEVER said those words about Henry. In fact, if you did a little more digging, you’d realize the article no longer exists! :D

Daniel and Betty all the way!!! Any other pairing in the end would be disappointing. Over the past four years these two have built a strong bond that could easily lead to falling in love with each other. Lets face it, if Daniel falls for anyone else so soon after Molly’s death it would just belittle him as a character and the love he had for Molly. The only happy ending would be with Daniel and Betty.

I am so amazed how people make some very intriguing connections.Nor betty nor Daniel has ever said “you are like a brother/sister to me”
they are friends, and have this very interesting bond in which one can almost complete each other`s sentences.
Daniel and Betty all the way! Yeah, e!!!

FYI merlin I have been watching the show since season 1 and HAVE NOT STOPPED. Out of all the romantic endeavours that Betty has been on, I believe that Henry is the one for her. There are many reasons, but since I seemed to be HIGHLY outnumbered right now, I’ll save a nice juicier post for another time. There is a reason why the second season was the best thus far in ratings.
And no, he is not a “saint” as all you percieve us Benry shippers to see him as. He’s human just like everyone else, and he makes mistakes just like all the other suitors for Betty (Matt being indecisive, Daniel being a man ho, Gio being well, Gio). He did what he needed to do and take responsibility for what he did. Is that a crime?
I do agree though that if Betty is turning into a swan, it would be AMAZING to see Henry go though a transformation also. It would be really nice, espeically if that is the ending (which I am still hoping).
So before all you start going on and stereotyping us Nerd Lovers (again), sit down and THINK about what you guys are saying. The SAME things were said about you Getty shippers, or the Detty shippers, and you Metty ones are getting some also.

Until another time,

I’m a big Detty fan and I think that Daniel and Betty are ment to be together. Not gonna even explane why I think so, because the first thing for me that matters is a chemistry. And Detty has it, it had it from the very beginning and Benry doesn’t have it. Gio’s cool, but he is SO not the one… Matt… well, that would be the most stupid for me. Daniels’s fade copy, ha? He’s a jerk, that’s who he is. I heard that the original creator of Betty (Yo Soy Betty la fea) only sells the rights for the show with the condition that in the series final “Betty will stay with her boss”. So, what is Silvio up to, if he so doesn’t want to give us Detty? Maybe some ridiculous ending in which Matt becomes the head of Mode and Betty’s working for him, and they two marry in the end? Or Betty’s gonna say bye to her carriere and go work together with Gio? LOL Really, there are plenty of other stupid varients accounts. As for Henry/Betty and Daniel/Amanda, well, it’s the most lame stereotype about a nerd marry a nerd and a beauty marry an equal, which has already ruined so many other series (including Harry Potter LOL in which the main character marries a shool princess though their couple has no chemistry AT ALL). So, Silvio, put yourself together, come on! We’ve already had so many tv shows died because of producers’ and writters’ ridiculouse decisions.
Detty forever!:)

After rereading this article and the comments that were posted on it, i would like to FULLY comment on this issue:
As I said before, I have been watching UB since the beginning and HAVE NOT STOPPED. It still remains to be my favorite show on TV and I have not missed a single episode. I mean, I was Betty for Halloween this year!
Now as we all know, this adaptation of “Yp Soy Betty La Fea” is very much different from the original and the other adaptations of the telanovela. Silvio keeps mentioning that it is not a carbon copy of the show, and he has proved it, adding amazing characters, plot lines, and moments that make me smile. One of those ideas was Henry. He didnt know at the beginning what a popular charcter he was going to be, but look what became of the idea. Once again I say it, out of all teh romantic endeavors that Betty has had, I believe that Henry was the best one for her. So what if they are similar? It just shows that you don’t need to change who you are to find that someone that you could possibly share your life with. Never have I been attached to a character and related storylines more than I did with Henry. In my opinion, Henry was the best thing that happened to the show. Can you picture Season 2 without him?? There was a reason that Season 2 was the highest rated and most popular season thus far!
Now on to the Detty issue, and I do not care if I get flames for weeks for posting this. It’s about time someone speaks up for those who just does not. Throughout the show, you see the relationship between Betty and Daniel grow, but not romantically. It’s at the point that if their close friendship somehow turned into a romantic one, it would totally throw off the show IMHO. They are so close as friends that it would seem so awkward for them to transision that way.
Also, yes it is an adaptation of the original telenovela, but besides the basic plot line, have we seen any huge similarities to the US version and the adaptation? No. It does not have to end in a Betty/Daniel ending. It is up to the writers and the execs.
The point of the show is the transformation from Season 1 Betty to wheneve ot ends, not physically, not romantically, but as a person in herself being proud of who she is fully and no matter what. The only person in my opinion that has helped Betty achieveing it was Henry (even with the baby-mama drama). The chemistry is udeniable and it just outs a smile on anyone’s face when it is seen.
I’m sorry if I offened anyone, it’s about time that someone speaks up for the minority on here. Just remember that EVERYONE here was in the same place that us Nerd Lovers are here now.

First of all: Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to all the UB fans!
DB, it was a very interesting comment. First of all: I really did not want to speak again on a neardy stereotype, but had to, because I had to talk about stereotypes in common and about how they ruin and destroy different shows. And now I want to say about another stereotype, which can be called “They are good as freands, but not lovers..”. This is the one that has ruined, killed and destroyed too many amazing pairings on tv, movies, books, etc. People use to say: “Yes, they have an amazing bond, yes, they understand each other, they see each other on a spiritual way, but… that’s it! No romance here!” But THAT IS A ROMANCE, at least for me. That’s exactly what I personally call chemistry, and that’s where any good relationships start. Imho, of course.
Now, about Henry. He’s a character played by a VERY GOOD actor (and I admit it, though my heart forever belings to Eric). Henry was a start of Betty’s growing up as a women. But, imho, that was it. Nothing more. Whith Charlie’s coming to New York it was clearly made by the writters what Betty had ment to him and what their relationships had been for true. First: when Charlie comes back, Henry at ones tells Betty that it’s all over between them and that they have no future, because he wants to make it up with his ex. So, he and Charlie become a romantic couple, but then he runs back to Betty and sais he wants to be with her. But then Charlie gets pregnant and he wants to leave Betty again, now forever. Why? Because he doesn’t want his child to grow up without a father? Then he’s decision is not very smart, because he can be a good father even without living with Charlie. I mean, if he swears he loves Betty, what can be worse to any kid than seing his father not loving his mother, but despite it they still live together? Trust me, I know something about it. So Henry runs away with Charlie again (!), Betty tries to start a new life and heal her broken heart, but then (what a surprise!) Henry comes back again, because he couldn’t find a job, so he comes back to Mode… And that’s when it all has to be stopped, that’s when Betty should tell him she won’t let him brake her heart again (and Daniel was totally right about the situation when he wanted to fire Henry trying to protect her from the new heartache), but the writters choose to do a thing, that they now do in lots of other tv shows (including Lost..) – they let a ridiculouse and unthought story-line happen. And no, I’m NOT saing that the whole Benry story-line was ridiculouse, I’m saing that at some moment it just turned this way, when it simply had to be over…
And it’s not about HAVING TO CHANGE and becoming a different person for someone. My personal opinion is that the point of the show is about people changing because they grow up and they go different roads, and they try different ways to find out what way is actually for them. That’s what I love about Daniel/Betty. People never stay high school nerds, or princesses, or princes till the end of their lifes, they have to make a journey and learn, that’s what I think. And leaving Betty with Henry, imho, means leaving them in a high school state, like cutting off everything they’ve achieved thrue their lives… And Betty/Daniel shows how people can make their way from the start step to a new step.
OK, I think I’ve made my point as clear as I could:) Thanks.
Detty forever shipper, Mary
